Hello, I regret having  work commitments on Saturday just past, And I was hoping that there was a good DVOA turn out and attendance at the Kent extended Family's services for my (and your...) friends, Kent and Caroline Ringos.  Thanks [Caroline and Kent] for all the Event Org. advice and entertaining "O"stories all these years past.

PLease can some one summarize or report on the memorial service and touch outline the high points?
Anyone taking pictures after the service would be a bonus.

Kent and Caroline, Rest In Peace.

The service was one designed by Caroline. She wanted a celebration of life, not a memorial. The Unitarian minister read a biography of Kent and Caroline, which chronicled their early days in the heartland of the country, their meeting at a dance at Purdue, several moves across the country, and their very full lives of family, work, and leadership in various areas in their community life.

Family members read several of the hundreds of poems that Caroline had collected in journals. Several friends and family members shared their thoughts and memories.

Mary Frank read a remembrance of the Ringoes' orienteering involvement, including the fact that they were present at the first orienteering event held in North America and the key roles they placed in founding the club and getting it off the ground. Mary plans to share this remembrance at the DVOA summer membership meeting on June 29.

On display were many photos of Kent and Caroline (taking up two floors), including their world-wide travels. Some in the club may recall one of their last trips: to the Galapagos Islands.

Kent and Caroline donated their bodies to science. When the bodies are cremated and the ashes returned to the family, the ashes of the two will be joined and scattered, as Caroline directed, on a windy day, so they might travel together again.

Many members of DVOA were in attendance, at least three of whom I almost didn't recognize in their suits and ties (where was my camera when I needed it!)

Mary Frank has suggested that, as a tribute to the Ringoes and other members of the club who are no longer with us, dedicating a bench at French Creek State Park. More on this later, as we talk with the park about this opportunity.

Thank you for the update on the Memorial Service!  What wonderful people Kent and Caroline were - always giving, always thinking of others.

The biography was written by one of Kent & Caroline's daughters.

I wonder if she would allow us to print it in the Briar Patch and/or post it online...
