Thanks Ed.  I always look forward to Ed Scott designed courses.  Today's were challenging but very fair, especially in summer conditions.  Plenty of route choices.

Two of my controls were ones I set on Friday.  Having set them did not provide me with an advange since today I approached them from a different direction.  In fact those two controls were the hardest for me to find.

    Thanks Ed.

Great day Ed. Great course. This was my first time at Hay Creek, and some of those controls were an adventure to find.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.

Thanks to all the volunteers today for making the Hay Creek event happen.  Ed I loved the green course, it was challenging mentally and physically.  And it makes such a big difference when the map is current!!! What a treat.

Fun day!  The wire bridges sure were unique.  I had intended to try them, but bailed and waded after watching others dangle like spastic spiders..

Hay Creek is always a challenge, but I had a great time (while not always choosing a great route).  Happy because I finished, and managed to find myself again when "off".  Have experienced what Larry refers to as the "Hay Creek Massacre" or "the Control that will NOT be found" more than once in the past!

Grabbed the last 4 controls this morning and solved the mystery of Red #11.  For those not on Red; when I went down to hang it Friday I didn't find my ribbon, so I skipped it for then and hung the rest so I could approach it from the other side.  I'd approached it that way when I hung the ribbon a month ago.  The approach from below worked so I hung it and headed for home.  On Sunday several runners had trouble there and it seemed like they all were in agreement on where it wasn't, and that place seemed to match where I'd been on my first attempt on Friday.  This morning, and this time armed with a compass just to be sure, I again paced down from another nearby control in an obvious reentrent and came to the same place I'd been on Friday.  No control was visible from there.  I wandered just a little and saw a flash of orange.  A large tree and some low hanging beech limbs had obscured it from my original spot.  I paced down 35 meters to the flag.  To be sure, I checked out a nearby colliers hut and it was where it needed to be.  So on your Red maps you can move the #11 charcoal terrace SW to the end of the form line, which puts it 35 meters due magnetic West of the colliers hut. I'll send this data to Fred to make an update for our next Hay Creek event, but I'd guess that one will be using the Rt 345 side.

Thank Ed.  Very nice courses providing some interesting route choices and keeping us in nice woods despite the summer conditions.  I had a very good time out there!

Also thank you for checking up on Red #11 -  your report makes me feel less frustrated by my 13 minutes or so of wandering in the woods.

Lots of credit needs to go to the people that made it happen. Tim Walsh came up Friday to help hang controls.  John Gillette was really my day of event director. John did the computer set up and handled epunch most of the day.  The Zimmer family and Mary Frank did registration and Chris Hand, Judy Scott, and Rob Wilkison covered the start.  Ralph Tolbert, Sam Kolins and Petr Hartman picked up all the controls except a short four control loop that became my morning walk today. I was busy making the roundabout drive to start several times for a variety of reasons so I'm sure others pitched in while I was occupied doing something else.  Next time we start from this spot there should be a footbridge to replace the first wire.  We also have now learned the secret to having the restrooms unlocked. Embarassed

Woohoo!  Unlocked restrooms would totally ice the cake on this site!  The outhouse in the bunker was rather creepy - once you bolted the door, it was PITCH BLACK!!.  You men with tree options just can't understand how key it is to have restrooms near registration!
