Another event has drawn to a close and I'd like to take some time out to recognize the volunteers who made it a success.

First of all, I must apologize to all the Green, Brown, Red, and Sprint runners out there who experienced poorly placed controls on 57 and 58.  They were mine.  I hung them and take responsibility for any frustration you may have encountered as you ran your course.  In my zeal to help out and set up the event with Nate, I clearly overextended my capability.  I am still learning after about a year at this.

Now on to the heroes.  Thanks to Nate for setting up the courses, hanging most of the controls, and putting together the maps.  It was great teaming with you on this event and I look forward to working with you again.  Thanks also to Nate's Dad who was instrumental at set-up, Start, and tear down.  He made The morning go smoothly and the tear down go even smoother.  On the e-punch crew, thanks to Sandy, Tim, Kathy, and Vadim.  Epunch seemed to work like a charm throughout the day and we even managed to keep it relatively dry despite the late deluge (though Ron and I found one waterlogged and squealing box later this evening). Thanks to Erik, Fred and Bob A who held down Registration and kept the flow moving.  Thank you to Mary and Mark Frank who stepped up helped to train 25 neophyte orienteers from a baseball camp who dropped in late int he day.   And last but not least, thank you to the pick up crew: Erik, Nate, Bob R,  Scott, and one other club member (unnfortunately he left before I could get his name).  Nate ran a very efficient course pick-up which allowed us all to depart and dry off quickly.  By now I am sure that Tim has Kit 1 flags all over his basement drying out and Ron has the daunting task of drying out the Red Kit electronics.

Volunteers help to make these events the quality productions that they are, be they A Events or Weekend events like this.  Thanks again to those mentioned and those that I may have forgotten.  You made it a truly spectacular day.

And thanks to you John. Without new blood to continue the tradition, the "old" blood will tire and quit. My guess is that Petr is your un-named pick-up helper.

Thanks John!!  Registration/start/finish was well organized and post race goodies were very appreciated (Gatorade!!!!).  Springton is a great venue.

While the E-board is buzzing on Springton; I am hoping to solve another mystery.  On Red 1-2 and Green 13-14, myself and 2 others missed the 1st trail on the left (west of control point).  Luckily, I figured out I was on the eastern trail pretty quick.  I know the western trail connects to the Northern trail.

    Did anyone else miss this..?

I think Sandy did too - but it looks more like a deer path from the southern side, hard to spot.  I remember it from last year, it caused some trouble on the Orange course.

    Thanks everyone!

Hey John, From my perspective, springton manor was a very entertaining local O event/.  I especially liked the water mellon and animal cookies, orange/Banana slices and other pretzel snacks at the finish line/results area.  The courses were fine, altough as I told you, the "Sprint" runners had a definate advantage as they kenw the Green #4 flag was placed on an unmapped small (approx 1 ft tall) boulder cluster, when the mapped feature was a 3 foot or larger(taller) boulder cluster, which by  the way had a' half moon' elephant trail around it due to all the peoples searching for the MIA O flag and E box thru tall weeds.
THe park was half runnable, half muddable, or was that a "mud" hazzard (minor creek surrounded the rootstock)  on Green rootstock control Number 6.  Anyway, I had a good run althiough I was hampered by the heavy rain from control #7 to the finish, in fact, I navigated by trail 'alone' after the rain started and it became almost impossible to keep my glasses clear enuf to see past 20 feet ahead.

But this is an all weather running sport, so at least the warm rain was different and not all that unpleasant
Hope you have much success as the newest Event director at DVOA.  Break a leg ...
