For those planning to attend the Summer Fun in the Poconos at Francis Slocum State Park (August 9, 10, and 11), I'm arranging for tent camping sites. (There are other options; see http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/francesslocum/ for the site details and http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/staythenight/camping/index.htm for the camping details. ).

Because this is "peak season" the sites will cost $23 per night and, since Saturday is one of them, it's a minimum of two nights. If you just stay over Saturday night it will be $46. If you choose Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, it will be $46. If you're REALLY into it, you can do the whole 3 days for $69... If you want to bring a pet, add another $2/night, but this also requires a special site so let me know.  All sites are within a two-minute walk of the wash house.

The good news is that Francis Slocum has modern facilities: toilets, hot showers, and dishwasing at the wash house. Up to two tents (8x8 size) are allowed per site so sharing is an option (maximum is one family or 5 friends per site). Parking is tight so only one vehicle can be parked at site; "second vehicle" parking is available nearby. The site is under trees on a gradual slope; as I recall, last year we set two tents with no problems or inconvenient stones.Smile With so many of us close by we had a communal fire pit and several of us brought extra to share but that's optional.

Now for the tricky part. In order to be certain we have sites, I will reserve a block of them now. If you're camping, let me know soon, so I can add more if necessary. Reservations may be canceled a week in advance so, if you need to drop out, let me know by July 29, 2013. This will allow enough time to offer the site to someone else.

    Yet more details.

We now have 7 sites reserved. The camping site map can be seen at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/cs/groups/public/documents/document/dcnr_017052.pdf. The reserved sites are 63, 64, 65, 67, 68, 69, and 79. Please tell me what site you'd like when you contact me.

BTW: Frances Slocum (not "Francis") does have a group camping site but it was already taken. Curses.

I just checked the Frances Slocum camping reservations and the only ones left for the general public are the ones for pets. If you're planning to camp with us in August, please contact me ASAP! We still have 5  unclaimed sites.

Hi - We'd like to join you at Frances Slocum. Do you still have a site available?  I'd prefer to be on the outside loop. Is 63 still available? If not, 64, 65, 67 would be good for Friday and Saturday nights. Thanks.
