While Silas Condict Park is now open, as of Sunday, some of the trails are taped off.
Our permit has not yet been issued, and it is possible that it will be issued with the stipulation that we not use the taped-off trails. However, these trails are critical to our courses, so...
Even if we receive a permit, we might not be able to go forward with the event. For the latest information, please check back here on the eBoard, as well as the event page:

The taped-off trails were checked and there is only one blockage that would require a streamered detour of 10-20 m, so, in our opinion, the trails are usable. Whether we can convince the MCPC (Morris County Park Comm.) trails-person is another matter... -
Reply by BRycharski on Wed Nov 14, 2012 at 9:45 pmQuestion : If HVO gets a park use Permit, [Silas Condict Park] - take this CS Quiz
A. Can all DVOA, Scouts and other hikers please make sure to read and follow the course setter notes on 18 Nov 2012? (will be posted at registration)
B. Do all people know that in a Forest ... with some TBD amount of new fresh trees/branches down, that one will have to use MORE caution than most DVOA and HVO members (and Scout units too) than usual in going around and not thru tree branches and never hike under snagged trees? (ps, no controls/flags are next to rootstocks or there new pits/depressions)
C. Since there are More Silas Condict rootstocks (fallen trees with Roots exposed) than normal in our NJ parks, Can most DVOA and HVO members remember to BRING, display ... and be prepared to use - Safety Whistles? (I carry one now...)
D. Also, due to the occassional blockage by large branches of trails and or trail junctions (occassionally on the advanced Dual Meet/HVO courses), will hikers/runners run there normal color or length course (W, Y, OJ, Br, Gn, Red) or drop down a notch (Orange to Yellow say) due to the fact that added/New branches and whole trees, what were logical trails (mostly Disguised by fall leaves to Boot), are now very dicey at best and at least obscured?
E. Silas Condict was originally a postage-stamp small park recently enlarged by a local developer donating a large track of unbuildable (Hilly/rocky) private land to triple (4x?) the size of the park. Will advanced runners take "route choice" decisions based on a longer but Safer route that might be better than a direct compass bearing course? Lots of Tall cliffs and slippery forest leaves to consider.
F. From the computer keys of Assistant Course Setter Bob Rycharski (Green) for the use and entertainment of DVOA members et al. Rootstock credit goes by the Nome De Plume of Hurricane Sandy!
