There will be approximately 50 controls in the woods specifically for the daytime foot-O. Only flags, no e-punch and no pin punches will be hung. But, there will be identification on each flag, and you will be given a card on which to record the controls you visit; more on that later. Master maps of all the controls will be utilized for you to draw your own course(s). Accuracy is going to help, for some, but for those who just normally get themselves in the circle no big deal. Many flags will be totally obvious, but not all of them.
Here are a couple ways you can think about utilizing the placed controls.
1.Decide how long you would wish to be out in the woods based on you own abilities ( perceived or otherwise). Then draw a course from the master. Go do it.
    2. Do a score-O. Draw as many controls on your map you wish, up to the total on the master. See what you can get in the time frame you allow yourself. Or partner up with others and have a competition.
    3. Do ROGAINE style and go for them all, including an additional 20ish controls that will be out for the bike-O. This can be in one day, or take two. And maybe add on the night-O controls, if we have a night-O and you are not doing that.
    4. Only draw enough controls for a sprint-O. There will be enough close enough together to make this practical.
5.Do any style course you like, sans the compass. I have not carried a compass with me into the woods to do placement of the controls. Some of you could maybe use the practice of reading the map better ? Well, guess we all could use that.

This event is being promoted to all of the clubs within two hundred miles, and maybe more,  including on Attack Point. If a group wants to have a course designed for all to compete with each other by an unbiased source we will arrange for that one course. However, it will still not be your normal O. Draw your own map, no clue sheets and no compass allowed.

There will be a method/code deviseded such that you will not know until the finish of your chosen style of course if you got everything correct.

Did I mention there will be no clue sheets? Just find them and record. There might even be forms for you to fill in the blanks on a clue sheet when you get to a control. Then at the finish compare with a master clue sheet and see how you did. Or what the setter missed.

I have a couple other thoughts, but the point is that this is not your standard meet to come and run on a prearranged course, try to get done in a specified time frame, talk a little maybe, then go home. This is about you doing what "you" want, taking what time you want, doing it "when" you want, perhaps learning something you didn't take the time to do before, hanging out with your friends, family and maybe some new aquaintances and just RELAXING.

Remember, this is just for fun, no rankings, no nothing but FUN.

All inaccuracies will be disclaimed, no one will accept responsibility for the controls being somewhere else other than where you thought they should be. So just let them where you find them ( if you do ); find them.

    I love it.

But you realize that my personality has no choice but to find ALL the controls. Some people just got to set a challenge for everything. Not sure if I'm blessed or cursed?

    Thanks Ron

There better be because a number of us already have campsites.  But we could just have a weekend of fun with friends without orienteering should something happen that we coulding do it.  but like Ed said there will be orienteering so come and have fun with your orienteering friends.

First of all, thank you for organizing this.

A few quick questions: 1) Do we need to preregister for this? 2) Given the laid back format, will there be a start/ finish area?

I'm planning on doing this as a tri-O/adventure race simulation. As a local, I know the park's restrictions on MTBs on trails in the eastern part of the map, and select western trails are listed as multi-use (foot and bike traffic).

    Thanks again.

You do not need to preregister. There will be a headquarters at which you must sign in and out of and from which all activities will be based. Maps will be here and master maps will be here for participants to self check for accuracy after finish of any courses. Start will be wherever you want to start from for each O event.

A tri-O/adventure race would be the perfect use of this weekend. Hope others join you in taking advantage of this setup.
