Just wondering if the relay is just for the blue course and how it works.
Are there opportunities to get on a team at sign up?
It's a 3hr drive so I want to get as much info as possible prior to jumping in the car.
Thanks much

Reply by Sandy on Fri Nov 11, 2011 at 4:06 pmThe event director usually comes up with the format for the relay. It's been various things in the past - usually it is 3 people with some sort of handicapping system. So a time penalty if you don't have a woman on the team or maybe someone over or under a certain age. One year when I was the event director at Fair Hill for the MidAtlantics, I did a fast and furious sprint relay with all the legs being run simultaneously but with interval starts instead of a mass start. Generally relay teams are made at the event amongst those willing to stick around since the relay is usually run around 2. But, the event director has total control so we'll have to wait and see!
Note that there is also a scoring system so that a combined club score is also computed. The MidAtlantics are QOC (Quantico), SVO (Susquehanna Valley), WPOC (Western Pennsylvania) and DVOA. I think. I'm not sure of the status of POC (Pocono) and IUPOC (Indiana Univ. of Penn.) and I'm not sure if any of the JROTC units, like FUMA (Fork Union) are their own clubs. -

- Is this mass start or staged interval start or start when ever you want? (I assume it is mass start for spectating)
- Epunch or pin punch?
- If this is mass start, do the legs have to be run in order of increasing length or can each team decide the leg order?
