    Lisa Carter hereSmile

I want to get my course in Route Gadget from my GPS.

I am usually able to figure things out - but I'm at my wit's end with this one.

    Julie - okay - I'm ready for help.Sealed

I have my course saved in documents - it's a TCX file. I've tried uploading it onto the course page - the 3 blue dots? Non -existent.

    What's next?

    Thank you for any help

    Lisa

Lisa, can you save your track as GPX file?

Lisa, this is the site I use to convert it:  http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/

Where it says "Get started now" in the green box, click Browse and find your TCX file.

On the bottom choose GPX file as the output format.

After you click "Go" it will load a new page where your converted file is listed as a long gobbledy-gook file name. You can right click and save target as... to save it to your computer, and I usually rename it to something useful then.

That's the file to upload to RG.

    Ok,
So I saved my track as a GPX track with the help of Julie's link.

When I view my GPS download on Route Gadget - the one blue dot is way, way, way off the map.

I started the GPS at start and ended it at finish - so I have no idea how  this blue dot got where it's at.

In other words, I have 2 blue dots, and by dragging the 3rd blue dot over - it totally screwed everything up.

I think I'm taking a break from this for now.

    Thanks everyone!!!

That's what I meant about it not lining up...

On that first screen I usually just drag all the dots into the general vicinity of the map/course. On the next step it will give you the option to add other points and adjust the track - that's when I find several places on the track that I can identify (direction changes at controls, and start and finish) and drag them to where they belong. After that it usually fits better. Sometimes I mess it up and have to start over.

QOC somehow georeferences the maps in RG and then the tracks almost always snap right to where they belong the first time. I don't know if that's an option to do with our RG but it sure makes things easier.

Actually - I figured out what happened.

When I got home - I turned it on and accidentally hit start.

So one of the blue dots is all the way at my house!!! Until I drag it back to Stuckey pond on Route Gadget- it get's really crazy and hard to get worked out.

    I'll get it next time!!!

    Thanks again,
    Lisa

If you're feeling really ambitious, you can open the .gpx file in Notepad, delete the extraneous data from the end of the file and resave. Each full trackpoint looks like this, just remove any which have a much later time from when you finished the course.

    <trkpt lat="43.047814" lon="-73.801089"> <ele>98.191895</ele> <time>2010-10-15T18:33:26Z</time> </trkpt>

You must delete everything above together, or it will cause problems with the file though.

Make sure not to delete </trkseg></trk></gpx> at the very end of the file.

Okay, so I was feeling really ambitious Julie!!!

    Got it!!!!

It's not exact - I know there's a part, once I saved it, that I should have moved my route a little. It looks like I was zig zagging across the creek :-)

Thank you for all of your help!!!

Julie's comments about georeference are correct. It is something that I've looked into and appears to be doable, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet. It is on my list of things to do.
