Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped today at Stuckey Pond.  I know it's a long drive for many people and so I was pleased with the turnout and the volunteers.

Special thanks to Bob Huebner for designing the courses and hanging all the controls and schlepping all the water out there.  I showed up Saturday afternnon expecting to get to work helping only to have him say he was done.

Thanks to Doug Sevon for handling the pre-registration and the early registration shift.  We tried something new with printing maps at a special scale for those that pre-paid and he made the process work.  Also thanks to Kent Shaw for modifying his A-event registration program to use for this and of course thank you to everyone who made use of it.

Vadim handled a lot of the epunch duties and was able to get our automatic live upload of results to the internet working.  You may not have been aware of it, but shortly after you downloaded today, the results were up on the NAOC 2012 website (under Training Event).  We were testing out some of the technology we will be using at the 2012 North American Champs and we have this piece working well.  Today's event was billed as a NAOC Training Event - it was training both for competitors who wanted to run in similar terrain but also for those of us who will be organizing the event as we try out some new things.  (See www.NAOC2012.org for more information about the 2012 North American Champs event.)

Day of event helpers included Bob Fink and Doug White at Start; Karl Ahlswede at Registration; Mary Plunkett, Rich Plunkett, Kathy Urban, Dave Urban, Bob Huebner and Eddie Bergeron at the road crossing on the beginner courses; and Zac Barker, Margaret Bowerman, Dan Barker, Petr Hartman, Mike Carter, Lisa Carter, Vadim Masalkov and Bob Huebner on control pickup.  I'm sure I've missed some people - my apologies.

I wonder if I'll get this lucky with the weather next year at the North American Champs!  :)

Lisa and I had a great time.

She did really well on orange and was very pleased with her run.

I was doing well on red until I left one of the controls too quickly and got my mind convinced I was somplace I wasn't. Took 18 minutes to run that leg, but less than 3 minutes when I ran that leg picking up controls. It looked so easy on the map and it was if I would have just got started in the right direction. Got to love chasing controls!  One of these days I'll stop making simple mistakes... maybe not, lol.

I really enjoyed the terrain, lots of neat stuff to see along the route. Plenty of features and I even kicked up two deer and a flock of turkeys. And Julie had a funny story of someone elses bear encounter.  Too cool.

    And the weather was perfect!

    Thanks to all involved.

Great weather, interesting course, and yes lots of wildlife.......I scattered the turkeys a few times going back and forth trying to find the control on the spur .....#2 on the red course.

Also ran into Mr. Bear out near #7 on red course and heard a warning growl in the #2 red course area.

Both those areas also cost me lots of time dooming me to the dreaded DNF.

Thanks to the control person who let me run with him for a control or two to see how experienced folks move through the forest.

Nice to experience the pace and get pointers that one needs to be more sucessful at this game.

    See ya at Rutgers
