    Hi all

    I wanted to put out some ideas for an event I'm setting up for 5 June to get feedback on interest.  Here are some basic parameters:
    • Just the 1:15,000 East map: covers a lot of ground, but maybe a second overlapping map could be used (e.g., Central);
    • Assuming just the East map, 3hrs seems the longest time (making it a challenge for anyone to get all the controls given a reasonable number of controls).  4hrs might require lots more controls and/or a bigger map;
    • Mass start (or very small window) to get everyone back at nearly the same time (good for socializing) and leave plenty of time for pickup;  Say, start at 11 and end at 2.
    • If a mass start, then perhaps a rogaine-style "planning" session before start;
    • All controls intermediate or advanced (at least, not visible from paths) to minimize vandelism if they are hung the day before.
    • Informal pre-registration (encouraged but not mandatory) to reduce map and food waste, also perhaps for finding partners if done as a group.

    Count me in! A few questions: Individuals and/or teams? Any thoughts on a 3 or optional 6 hr event? I OK with multiple maps. I'm OK with 400 - 600 meters between controls.

    A longer option would be possible if that would be of interest to many people.

    Did my first Score O today at Skunk Hollow, pretty cool twist on the game, makes for alot of route options for sure.

    I'm in for a longer Score O.

    French Creek is a difficult terrain to get through in the summer time and I would not suggest to go over 3 hours course. Otherwise mass start needs to be moved to an early time to allow enough time for controls pick up. Also, the weather can be hot.

    It's not a real rogaine and I believe 5 minutes would plenty to plan your route or none at all which is preferable.

    There would be ways to use FCW for 10 or 15 controls without forcing people through the worst of the green areas that could add a couple hours to the run if enough people wanted a 5 or 6 hour window. FCN is out of print, but I'd guess we could laser print a map showing the best of that terrain from the Mark Dominie version.  Adding in some of the Crow's Nest terrain could also be an option, but that is probably best saved for a New Map Introduction in the spring of 2012.
