IMPORTANT preliminary information. NFP is not a large park, and is intersected by an active railroad and 2 streams. In order to set decent courses at this park, legs will need to cross the railroad as well as the streams.
Orienteers are permitted to cross the RR where they deem it safe. While it is still in use, the trains that use it travel at a very slow speed, and probably not on weekends.
The streams are a bit trickier. While they are moslty mapped as uncroseable, assuming the weather cooperates, the streams should be safely crosseable in some areas. These areas are marked on your map using the mandatory crossing symbol (outward facing parentheses). This symbol is NOT used to mark a mandatory crossing! It is only used to show the orienteer the area where (s)he should be able to cross safely, without getting into more than abuot a foot or water. Areas NOT marked with this symbol should be considered uncrosseable!!! A map showing these markings will be prominently displayed at the registration area.
White, Yellow and Brown courses WILL NOT require stream crossings (except perhaps at bridges).
Green, Red and Blue courses WILL require several stream crossings.
Orange is yet to be determined.
Please also note that due to nature of this park, controls may be closer to each other than OUSA rules dictate. Check your control codes carefully!
This is a "runners" map. Mostly open fields with small patches of forest, not unlike Fair Hill, but with less forest... The Blue course will be 12k+, so come on out runners!
Finally, the map is at a scale of 1:10,000 with a contour interval of THREE meters, not 5.
If you have any questions, concerns, etc, please feel free to discuss in this thread. -

In the Antietam thread Ed pointed out that we set map attendance records for two weeks in a row. I hope everyone comes out to NFP on Saturday to be part of history as we go for another map attendance record

Reply by edscott on Tue Mar 22, 2011 at 2:04 pmBob.. your target is 95 people. Making the top three is a lock since 18 gets you on the list. The Hospital side's record is 175 people.. (John De Wolf's event in 2005).

Reply by edscott on Sun Mar 27, 2011 at 9:03 amOK... Norristown had something over 100 so that's 3 record "attendance by map" events in a row.. today's assignment is a bit tougher.. 385 is the magic number for Warwick.
