Winter meeting Auction
-
Topic created by Steve on Fri Jan 16, 2015 at 6:43 pmI will be organizing a silent auction with the proceeds going to the juniors travel/ training fund. Please bring donations to the meeting as early as possible. Any items that are not bid on will be returned to the contributer. If time (and Nancy) allow, I will choose three or four items to be auctioned live towards the end of the meeting.

Reply by Steve on Sun Jan 18, 2015 at 11:20 amTwo donations to announce
1) If you live or work near Downingtown, a Shiatzu massage session to break down those cramped muscles.
2) A set of mis-matched wine glasses. Perfect for out on the patio where you just don't care.
Keep on supporting our juniors, by donating, bidding, or both. -
Reply by KathleenG on Sun Jan 18, 2015 at 8:12 pmOn the home page, it says the potluck dinner is at 5:00 PM, and that there will be workshops earlier in the day. What time do the activities for the day actually begin? Wil there be a schedule of workshops posted prior to the day?

Reply by Nancy on Tue Jan 20, 2015 at 11:40 amI just updated the event announcement to reflect two afternoon info sessions:2:30 - 3:30 - how to create a basic map using Google, led by Ed Scott3:30 - 4:30 - Orienteering Events 101 - everything a course setter or event director needs to know to run a successful event, other than course setting (note: Tom Overbaugh is working on a day-long training session on course setting for March 7)Another possible topic: how to interpret the IOF orienteering symbols we use, a topic which will come in handy for anyone considering participating in the President's Cup Event on Sunday at Springton Manor

Reply by furlong47 on Fri Jan 23, 2015 at 9:17 amWith questionable weather rolling in, when would any call about cancellation be made? (Mostly I don't want to make a bunch of food and then find out I have no meeting to take it to.)

Reply by Nancy on Fri Jan 23, 2015 at 4:08 pmAs of this writing (3 p.m. on Friday), the forecast is calling for whatever we get to end by noon. I looked at two forecasts (accuweather, weather.com), which show about an inch of snow possible for Phoenixville area. Temperature will be in the mid 30s.I will confer with the other members of the leadership team, but I'd say based on what I just saw in the forecasts, the meeting is still on.

Reply by Orienteeringmom on Fri Jan 23, 2015 at 6:39 pmNancy, things are changing as of 5PM. In our area which is not far from the church they are calling for up to 3 inches and turning back to snow at the end of the storm. Also are we sure that the church will have the lot plowed by 2pm and if not they might not happy with us driving all over it and packing it down so that it isn't plowable any more. I really want this to happen but like Julie I don't want to cook and then have food that can't be used as planned.

Reply by furlong47 on Fri Jan 23, 2015 at 8:05 pmEvery single forecast I have seen has been different. Even a go or no go decision posted at noon tomorrow would be okay, that leaves time to make the food and drive over.
