In 2014 Kathy and I participated in a few Montgomery County Senior Games events. There is quite a variety of events to choose from, such as Bowling, Golf, Walking, Stationary Bike, Softball Throw, and Bocce. At the awards ceremony I offered Orienteering as an event to consider for the 2015 games. In December I introduced Orienteering to the 2015 games committee. There are very interested, unfortunately, the 2015 schedule is already set. I offered Orienteering as an “Exhibition” event for 2015 and as a competitive event for 2016. I am waiting for their response.
Other counties in the DVOA area have senior games. These games are an opportunity to compete AND to introduce Orienteering to their games. Where can we go with this? Well, there are PA State Senior games and it would be great to have Orienteering on the State schedule. What can you do? Register for your counties Senior games, speak to the organizers about adding Orienteering to their schedule, and offer to put on the event for them.
