    Hello All DVOA members

PLease note the Following DVOA spring O meets do not have course setters. PLease contact DVOA Officials or the Meet Directors of same event  to help out as an Volunteer

List follows  of DVOA sites needing More Course designer help

    Myrick/BVA
    Quail Hill BSA camp, NJ
    Horseshoe
    Lower Perkiomen
    Governor Dick Park
    French Creek Park central

As the Event Director at Quail Hill, it would be nice to have an experienced Course setter
I would entertain mentoring a new Course setter at that NJ event.
I am sure other Meet directors will be glad for New persons to step forward as Course Setters.

PLease contact me for any questions.
    Lead, Do not follow.
For New members, Learning About DVOA course setting management can improve your  map reading and understanding about how O meets are designed and created.  Many person start by creating only the 3 shortest O courses and observe others do the Advanced courses. At a minimum (if you try) you will observe how easy or how hard it is to be a course setter, its Pros and Cons,  and learn from the course design experience. Hopefully other veteran members help you (if you are a first timer) to learn or vet your circles/sites 3 weeks (or more before maps)  are produced for the  eventual O meet.  Me, I make new friends, they help Me (sage advice), then I tend to help them at there next O event. After 2-3 events, you may become an Old CS pro.
Happy new Year DVOA'ers and Merry Christmas.  Bob Rycharski  PS see you  at QUail Hill camp  in April

    Hi Bob,

I'd love to learn course setting.  I did some of that a long time ago but count me as a beginner.  I live near Marsh Creek State Park so Quail Hill is pretty far but the others look reasonable.  French Creek is very close as is the West Chester one.  I'll assist essentially in any of them.  I've retired now and would like to get more involved in the club.  Let me know.

    Thanks

    Don,

The club is always welcoming to new, energetic course setters. One of the best places to learn or buttress course setting skills is at the annual course setting clinic.

Details are still being worked out, but look for it to happen in late winter, before the start of the new season.

Keep your eyes here for more info.

Too bad Quail Hill is on the same day as the Billygoat -- which is also being hosted by DVOA...

We are checking to see if Quail Hill can be moved to the following weekend.

I'll add that the tentative schedule is relatively flexible at this time. If there is a venue and weekend you would like to volunteer for, check with me to see if it will work.  There are constraints.  We have other Orienteering events to work around, hunting seasons, seasonal vegetation issues, seasonal parking issues, park events, ...  We need to maintain, to the best of our ability, a geographically balanced schedule .  We want to offer a variety of terrains. But most of all we need volunteers that can direct and/or course set for events so we have any schedule at all.
