Topic created by camperpat on Sun Nov 30, 2014 at 5:24 pmThanks for a really fun and different day. We left our house in south Jersey at 8 am. It was a warm 47 degrees and sunny. When we arrived to see snow! we were not really sure how it was going to play out. But , as usual, it was a great day orienteering and the hot chocolate really helped warm my wet feet!

Reply by ErikEddy on Sun Nov 30, 2014 at 6:20 pmThanks to the helpers, Diane and everyone who came today. My goal as course setter is to spend most of the day just talking to people and I achieved that today! I'm really curious how the snow affected courses... What do you think? Did you see a lot of snow paths?

Reply by edscott on Sun Nov 30, 2014 at 6:55 pmI started a bit later than normal and did see a lot of tracks, but they weren't really much help. Many of them were going to controls on other courses and in a couple cases, although they seemed to be going generally to where I wanted to go, they weren't going by the route I wanted to take. I really appreciated the hot chocolate at the finish.

Reply by j-man on Sun Nov 30, 2014 at 10:28 pmI was also surprised by the snow. It was actually pleasant when we left (and returned to) Media, with no snow left. But, I actually really like running in the snow. If anything, I would have preferred just a little more to help to fill in the nooks in the rocks. While heavy, wet snow isn't good for running, conversely, I find I can run more confidently in the woods with less chance of twisting ankles.Anyway, really liked the course and the use of the event center. Mt. Penn went from being a good venue to a really good venue.

Reply by anniemac on Mon Dec 1, 2014 at 7:59 amGreat turnout, great event! I had so much fun in the snow - what a great surprise. The tracks were both helpful and unhelpful :) The new start area was awesome, loved the orchard, and the event was very well organized. Good communication with the course notes. Thanks to everyone for putting this event on - probably one of my favorites of the entire year.

Reply by kathyu on Mon Dec 1, 2014 at 9:26 amI had a lot of fun yesterday. It's a pleasure to help when the event is so well organized. Thanks Diane and Erik, your efforts paid off and best of all, lots of new faces. Also thanks to the guy with big feet whose trail I walked in across a wide gnarly rock area.

And sorry to those affected by my overly creative solution to the short 2nd to last leg on O/Br/G. I was trying to have competitors avoid a mapped cut field that was actually fight, a large sinkhole, and a low hanging fence, on a leg that was supposed to be at full speed, and added so that all competitors ran the same way into the finish. It was actually pretty enlightening that so many people skipped that control. That is why it is important to fieldcheck even the most trivial legs!
As the GPS routes come in, partnered by an aerial view, I am realizing that it wasn't the field that was grown in. The pond in the Fruit Farm is actually much larger that was is on the map, which is why the edge of the pond pushed out towards that patch of green forest. If I would have seen that earlier, I could have drawn that detail in.
