    Sharing news from event organizers:

The North American Orienteering Championships (NAOC2014) are coming up in less than 2 months in Arnprior, Ontario, Canada (45 minutes West of Ottawa). Taking place on Oct. 10th to 13th, they are looking to be one of the best orienteering opportunities of the year.  4 races in 3 days on brand new technical maps in super interesting terrain. On top of that the organizers have packaged the orienteering in an amazing festival atmosphere.

Here are a few of the thing they have planned for us:
    • Opening and closing ceremonies
    • A theme song written by Ottawa band Orienteers
    • Catered breakfasts and dinners all weekend long
    • Shuttle busses to all of the events so you don't need to rent a car for the weekend
    • The new People's Cup up for grabs by the top club of the weekend
    • Great spectating opportunities to watch the US and Canadian teams fight for the classic Bjorn Kjellstrom Cup (seniors) and the second ever Future Champions Cup (juniors)
And of course the highlight of the weekend: the middle, long, and sprint North American Championship races in Arnprior and the ever challenging Carp Ridge forest.

That said we hope you'll join those of us from the club that have already signed up.  We anticipate a very fun weekend that is well worth cost of travel!

Make sure to register by August 31st to pay the regular registration fees.  After that registration will still be open until Sept 21st but the fees will be $10 higher per race you register in ($5 for juniors).

You can find all the details and registration at NAOC2014.ca.

I'm signed up for naoc, but have not travelled to Canada since pre 9/11/01 and I have vague awareness it's not as easy to cross borders as it used to be. Does anyone who has recently acquired the proper documentation know what I need and how long the process takes?

@Brad:  You basically need a passport.

However, depending on Brennan's age, he might not need one.

If traveling by air you must have a passport. If traveling by land, you can get the cheaper passport card. (I doubt anyone here will be traveling by sea but that can also use the cheaper card.) If you intend to visit other countries within the next 10 years, go ahead and get the full passport. If you do not have a passport, I would begin the application process immediately, and possibly pay the extra fee to expedite it. It takes 4-6 weeks normally and 3 weeks expedited.

Under age 16 can still get through with original birth certificate. But again, if the kid is almost 16 and will be doing other travel in the future, I'd probably just go ahead and get the passport as they are good for 10 years.

The eBoard will not let me post this part of my message, which is totally bizarre. I have typed it about 5 times and tried many different ways, but it just disappears when I hit Post. So here it is as an image...
