HR score-O RouteGadget

Topic created by Len on Fri Aug 29, 2014 at 5:12 pmWill the Hickory Run Score-O get a Goute Gadget map? I would love to see where I didn't go or how I missed what I was aming at. I would also like to see how others approached the score-O if they mark their routes.

Reply by Sandy on Fri Aug 29, 2014 at 7:12 pmThere is no OCAD file of the HR map that was used for the score-o. That map was made before the widespread use of ocad. I remember having to do all sorts of crazy things with a scanned image when I tried to overprint courses on those maps.
I'm not sure if it's possible to do RouteGadget without the ocad file. It might be - I will let the experts in RougeGadget chime in - but even it is, it won't be straightforward. -
Reply by ErikEddy on Fri Aug 29, 2014 at 8:23 pmgive it a few more days. Rob just mailed a blank map to Hugh to upload and he will get it into Routegadget.by the way, I fake uploaded my route after my run to a white course from last year's event just to see where I went.

Reply by ErikEddy on Fri Aug 29, 2014 at 8:29 pmso what happens when we run out of those maps? if it's not in ocad, how is it stored?

Reply by Sandy on Sat Aug 30, 2014 at 8:08 amThere is no electronic version of that map saved anywhere as far as I know, so when we run out of those maps, which we essentially have, we either need to remap the area or not use it anymore. Since it's my all time favorite map, I really hope the club is able to get it remapped. With an up to date version, it will be awesome orienteering.

Reply by Steve on Sat Aug 30, 2014 at 12:01 pmI spoke with Rob at the event last week. He has approximatley 150 maps left. that means two more events in the summer. As he stated many times, the map is 26 years old now. The south east end of this map was remapped (Camp Daddy Allen/ Sand Spring Lake) a few years back. I would like to see the game lands remapped because there is no infra-structure. Of course, no infrastructure means no good parking and facilities. I would be in favor of keeping the map as a 1:15, since we do not have many of them left.
As Erik mentioned, last years event was loaded on RG, so there has to be at least one jpeg somewhere. -
Reply by robw on Sat Aug 30, 2014 at 4:52 pmI just counted 162 completely intact 1:15,000 HR maps in my basement, with another 20 missing a small area in the nw corner but usable for most courses. So Steve is right that we have at least 2 more events with the current map. I would like to see at least one of them held sometime other that the summer to give people an opportunity to run or wlk through the area when the vegetation is not as think as it was last weekend. One question is whether we want the final events on this map to use regular courses or have some sort of rogaine-type event, parhaps combined with our newer maps.

Reply by Guy-O on Mon Sep 1, 2014 at 7:57 amHVO has digitized all of the maps we typically use. I know that JJ Cote did some of them, and could probably do the western / non-updated part of HR.

Reply by Len on Tue Sep 2, 2014 at 8:28 amThanks for the replys and background.erik, funny you mention 'fake loading' your route as I had done that because I just had to know. I love RG. It's a great learning tool for me.
