I want to be the first to congratulate Sam on a fine set of courses today.  Excellent use of the good terrain left on a map that is very much in need of revision. Courses were intense but quite appropriate.  "A" meet quality.

Yes, thanks to Sam for a challenging Green course and best of luck in college! Thanks to the Reed family and all the helpers for a fun day in the woods despite the wet weather.

    Sam,

These were excellent courses, very challenging, and a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the Blue course dispite missing one of the controls. When do you plan to set another courses? I'll make a note on my calendar as "must to attend" :)

Also, I would like to say a big Thank you to Reed's family for making this last use of French Creek North leftover maps.

    Vadim.

I agree with everyone Sam, good stuff!  Definitely challenging, no babying us along on red, and you avoided too much climb as well.  Excellent.  Now if only the bees had stayed home.  Yell

Let me quintuple the kudos for Sam.

I loved the Green course.  And thanks so much, Sam, for setting me up for it with your course notes.  (I plan a similar summary for all my future course setting events.)  I came determined to nail a "technical course" -- at French Creek no less.

With your prep, I kept rapt attention on my compass and distance estimation like never before, especially when there was precious few en route features to navigate by.  And the 2 controls where I added 5 or 6 minutes?  It was simply because I didn't read everything possible and then turned away from the control that must have been (I surmised when I finally found it) within 30m in the direction opposite from how I turned and finally relocated.  Rats!!!!!

Thanks so much for keeping us in the most enjoyable woods (Ed Scott tells me that FCN could have been a nightmare with less care taken), and thanks for how enthusiastically you take on course setting.  It is one of my favorite orienteering things to do and I hope to see you continue with it, with CYNO and, of course, with your home club.

Have an absolutely great time in Ithaca!!

Way to go Sam! You very evidently "get it." I've just looked at the blue, but that course setting displays really great understanding and insight. Everyone can learn from the approach Sam has taken.

OK--now I've looked at each of them. Each of those courses is excellent.

Any time someone is setting courses at FC, or anywhere else, this is a great place to look for inspiration.
