Course Setting Clinic - Interest?
-
Topic created by Tom-O on Mon Jan 23, 2012 at 10:31 pmWe are thinking of offering a course setting clinic in the near future (most likely a 4 hour session on a Saturday in late February or early March). The location is still undetermined but one possibility under consideration is the Schuykill Environmental Education Center.
The clinic will cover the following topics:
Course Design
Condes Overview (Course Design software)
The Course Setting Process
I would like to get a feel for the level of interest and any preferences for specific dates. Could you please respond to this posting here on the e-board or email me directly at:

Thanks,
Tom

Reply by Vadim on Mon Jan 23, 2012 at 10:47 pmI can do a quick session "Condes, How To" and go over the usage of Condes software for the most common types of courses. Early March works better for me.
If there is interest, please reply here or send e-mail. -

Reply by rgbortz on Tue Jan 24, 2012 at 8:44 pmI also am interested in fine tuning use of Condes. Hopefully the date set works out for me and work related circumstances. No particular "better" dates for me. Have Condes in my computer.

Reply by markwalsh on Sun Jan 29, 2012 at 12:40 pmI just goggled Condes and even though I knew it was software it's a bit pricey. Does the club have a certain amount of licenses and how much to get one to download?
Might be fun to play course setter......Is the Condes software a lengthy learning process?

Reply by Steve on Sun Jan 29, 2012 at 9:56 pmThe club has one license that we are all welcome to use, but we can only use it for DVOA events. That means that if you use it for a adventure race or a bike race we could all lose out, so please don't. The first step is to download the program from the web page you were at, and then you must contact Tom Overbaugh, who is the guy that championed the software. Tom will give you the access code, which you will type into the program when it prompts you. I suggest that you keep a copy of the code someplace, because version 8 does not display the code anywhere after it has been activated. (7 did)
I have been using Condes 7 and 8 for about six years now. I felt that the basics were pretty easy, but every event I do I can discover new tools. For me playing was the best teacher, but your curve will be shorter if you attend Tom's workshop. try playing with the software first so when you talk with Tom you have the basics down and some questions to ask.
By the way, Condes requires a map to be loaded for each event. I usually ask Fred Kruesi for the map files, since he is the primary ocad guy, but I know of at least three others who have the full library. Sandy Fillebrown, Bob Gross, maybe Ralph Tolbert are all the home bases for the printers, therefore they get all map files. I believe Ed Scott and Mark Frank also have copies. If I am wrong we will hear about it real soon. -
Reply by wilburdeb on Mon Jan 30, 2012 at 1:26 pmThe Condes software can be downloaded and installed without the license key. The software can be used for practise without the license, but in a limited mode (25 controls on two courses).
