I understand that running events in winter can add extra challenges to the planning and running of the event, and I don't know what behind the scenes issues may be driving things for Sunday's event at Norristown Farm Park.

However, is the two hour time limit for the 8.2 km advanced course, which includes the extra memorization challenge, really needed? Seems like this time limit, particularly for this distance, is going to limit participation to the elite runners of the club, which I'm assuming is not the intent.  Looking back over the 2011 events, this distance only occured for a couple of red courses and blue courses.

Also, with the weather forecast indicating temperatures should be well above freezing, could the "no water stops" be reconsidered? Again, 8+ kms in temperatures that could be above 50F seems a bit much to do without water.

Historically, The President's Cup event is NOT a normal orienteering event with full set of courses. It's always something different :)

I understand your concern about time limit. However, if you look at the map from last year, you clearly can see that about 3/4 of the map are open fields, which provides much higher speeds on the course(s). As for the Memory-O section, it's going to be pretty simple with small cluster of controls. There are no leaves, so, visibility is quite good.

This event is not included in the rankings. You are free to skip any checkpoint(s) you don’t want or have no time to visit. I might extend time allowance if volunteers magically appear to help. Otherwise, it’s a low key event with historically low attendance.

If the weather is warm enough (well, above 50F), I’ll place some water at the common checkpoint which both, Intermediate and Special, courses will be visiting twice. Otherwise, please plan to have your own water on the course.

P.S. So far I have zero volunteers :)

    Check again Cool

Sounds like another fun and intersting twist to the game - I'm in.

If I start getting volunteers with the speed of light, then we should be all set for a winter fun in the woods.

I've altered advanced course a little bit and now it's just 7.6km with only 90m climb and 26 checkpoints.
