This mornig I happened to be sitting in a medical waiting room with a very sparce selection of magazines.  I picked up the December issue of Boy's Life and there was a chart of the results of an on-line survey for finding the most popular outdoor actvity of Boy Scouts.  Sure Hiking, Camping, Water sports etc lead the list, but Oreinteering was there.  #9 with 2% of the vote. We have made some progress over the past 20 years.

Ed is too modest. As the DVOA /Scouting coordinator, he has been advocating orienteering in the scout program for more than those 20 years. Whether it has been the MASOC event every May, or mentoring the NJSOC in the early years, attending scout camporees or scout meetings, Ed has been there playing lead Trumpet. We will never know how many people first heard of us through programs that Ed ran, or the downstream ripples that he created. He has single handedly fought against the 'old' scouting way of compass skills and pace counting to make our sport as interesting and competitive as we know it.

    Thank You Ed

...and you deserve a lot of credit for this....MASOC 1-28...+++ (thousands upon thousands of boys and girls getting the right exeprience in a fun event and great location....so much work on the BSA Orienteering merit badge book, support for the scout website, supporting other clubs with developing scout events,  teaching hundreds of clinics/roundtables...on..and on and on!!!!  I know you are stepping down from the liaison position for boy scouts and orienteering usa but your contributions of time and expertise have made an incredible impact and given the opportunity for so..so..so many people to experience the fun of true orienteering.   THANK YOU ED!
