The scout reservation was very accomadating and helpful. And I didn't come in last! Thanks to everyone who came out to help. pat Buton

From the enthusiasm of the scouts and cadets to old and new DVOA friends showing up, the day was splendid.Many thank you's all around.....Bob Rycharski for continuing to serve as event director. with all his obvious connections and committment to scout leaders and Quail Hill, being everywhere throughout the day, from homebase to Start to closing up the day. Thank you.Kathy for volunteering early to complete the day at the e-system, and for her invaluable calming counsel during our sometimes manic preparations to pull off the day.Pat and Bob Burton who are the heart of DVOS's NJ orienteering, keepers and replenishers of the NJ kit, early to arrive, welcoming everyone to our event while running Registration, always with smiles and good spirits, then staying till wrap up. Your presence blesses us.John Gillette serving as savior of the event, stepping in to cover the crush of morning e-management, and who came up with a system that made it easy on all of us. (With thanks to Mary Frank for her ideas and models that helped this happen.)Vadim and Olga (+1) who upon arriving helped anyway they could, from assisting with the e-system to packing it up for transport home.And to our pick-up crew --Vadim, Dave Urban, Bob Burton, and Rich Boehme who covered the far corners of the camp, to Olga who brought back the nearer controls.What a wonderful team, what a great turn out of scouts and cadets, on a perfect spring day! It was a thorougly fun day.

Reply by bobburg on Mon Apr 18, 2016 at 2:29 amOh, Oh....and Rich Ebright and Jim Puzo, who invaluably stabilized the day at the most critical moment, managing Start and providing instruction on the front lines, sending our scouts and cadets off into the camp throughout most of the day, before getting their chance to run the woods themselves. Thanks so much you two for managing that role so well.

Reply by BRycharski on Tue Apr 19, 2016 at 0:17 amTHis Quail Hill event is not a scout O meet mascarading as a JROTC O Meet but is a LOCAL O event welcoming for ALL to enjoy. The O meet crew was amazing and to process over 250 persons onto a O course was tough but As John Gillette said, let the computer do the work, and it did. And I hope Kathy Urban did get a few photos taken with her camera, it was a great and bright day, perfect for pictures. I have not munched the stats but this year the JROTC cadets from 3 local high schools and One Civil Air Patrol squadron brought 10 cadets, all told the 4 groups showed up with over 140 cadet runners alone, then about 50 Scouts and the rest DVOA and a few John Q Public walk ons. A Forth High school ran afoul the dual beauracratic issue of BOD waivers and lack of surfing the www.dvoa.org schedule for news. Next year I hope to be involved and maybe invite all 4 Schools (or more) for a Orange level showdown to see hows the top 3 fastest group. I see I think on Orange one School (CN) took the top 3 places. On Allentown CAP team showed well (took a 2nd place on yellow) Scouts had fun and a few achieved rank advancement with John Gillettes help and training tips. The MAST and Colts Neck High School and Linden HS did orienteering - then socialized at the picnic benches or the shady forest fringe near the registration area. A Finer crew of DVOA and other volunteers could not have been observed this century. Hey, we are no MASOC, but we try real hard to emulate that fine event! DVOA and I am proud of the peeps + members in the trenches (and on the phone) administering to the paper work and computer work.
Remember, I am a Eagle Myself, and the Youth of schools, Scout units and towns near our maps are potential future DVOA Youth then adult members, pay it forward All, Pay it in Meet volunteerism, even the Troop 173 parents Sal, Todd and Maria from Parssipany NJ volunteered to just park cars (avoiding conjestion in the Quail Parking lots). So its a wrap, I started this map with Theo Z over 17 years ago, I am amazed how it (Quail Hill Map) has Grown in O popularity. Keep up the class act all my friends whom helped out Sunday (and the past). Special Mention to all the work Bob Burg did to finish the courses and create the new Quail maps. To all that came, I Hope you were thrilled and enjoyed the beauty in the woods (as One young DVOA Lass remarked to me as we crossed courses jogging over the wooden Quail Footbridge), and hope runners did not take a slippery slope spill (I left a bum print out in the woods myself) and for all who missed this O meet, I hope to get you to try this Spring time annual DVOA O party in the future .
