Mountain Biking O?!!!
-
Topic created by ErikEddy on Wed Apr 2, 2014 at 4:43 pmAre there any mountain bikers in the club? I ride every once in a while on my cheap-o hardtail at parks like French Creek, Iron Hill, Rocky Ridge, Blue Marsh, Mt Penn....(no I don't build trails :) )
I thought it would be cool to try a true mtb-o course sometime in DVOA land. At the permission of an ED/CS, we could maybe even ride the White or Yellow course before or after the event in parks where mtb is permitted. So, anyone else interested?
BTW, I will most likely have a bike-o at the VP cup, but that will be on friendly "rail-trails". -

Reply by furlong47 on Thu Apr 3, 2014 at 1:44 amWe have hosted a few at SVO events, but the turnout was so low as to not be worth the effort. If you aren't going to West Point, QOC has a MTB-O event that weekend at Rosaryville in MD: http://qoc.us.orienteering.org/events/2014/4/13/rosaryville

Reply by shiatsuron on Thu Apr 3, 2014 at 1:21 pmThe only thing close to what you are asking about is adventure racing. If doing a bike-o isn't enough, you can do a score-O and a canoe-O all in the same event. There are any number of quality events locally and regionally. All can be challenging for distance, technical biking skills as well as navigation. GOALS.org is a good place to look for local events.

You are probably aware of the mecca near your home - Blue Marsh Lake.
