RouteGadget is Back

Topic created by LarryG on Sat Mar 1, 2014 at 4:19 pmOK, the previous title no longer applies, now that the new version has been installed, so I started a new one.Excellent! Not only running without Java security issues, but it seems to be faster and better than the previous version. Now, is there still a way to watch the animation by control (leg by leg)? I haven't figured out what the Theme means (person, split, relative). It was nice to be able to force you faster runners to wait for me at each control, at least in the cyber woods. Now, I need to get to an event to be able to use this. But for now, still looks like shovel 'n' ski season.

I was without RG (because of Java) for a long time. -

Reply by Mac on Sun Mar 2, 2014 at 5:38 pmHey. Please post your routes on RouteGadget. I am housebound for the forseeable; and one thing I enjoy is setting up a "competition" and watching. Check out John DeWolf and Ed Scott, for example at Batsto. Come on folks!

Reply by Steve on Sun Mar 2, 2014 at 7:41 pmSorry to hear you are housebound. I hope it is weather related, not medical. I hope the Oscars help your mood tonight.

:) I like that too. I can actually win some that way...(legs)
But to do that you have to enter the route manually. A downloaded GPS route will not stop at each control :( which is unfortunate because the GPS route shows slow down and speed up within a leg. From observation, I am assuming the manually entered legs can only average the split time over the route distance you've entered.
I'm still running the old RG version but may be updating if I get the time... or am forced to. -
Reply by furlong47 on Mon Mar 3, 2014 at 11:54 amThe upgrade is on the server side, Len, so you don't need to do anything. The DVOA Routegadget is now the Java-free version. For other clubs, if you use their RG sites, it will depend on when/if they upgrade.

Reply by Len on Mon Mar 3, 2014 at 1:45 pmOh. Interesting.
So we have our choice depending on how you click to RG.
If you go to RG through the index page, you get the new version.
If you go to RG through the results page (top of the actual event) you get the old version.
I like that the new version shows your splits with a GPS track.
I dont like how muted the competitor routes are. I find it difficult to pick out from the map and other routes. Too bad you couldnt set that as an end user.
Thanks Julie -
Reply by BobGross on Mon Mar 3, 2014 at 2:59 pmI missed the link off of the results page. It should now go to the HTML version. Let me know if there are any other problems that pop up.

Reply by Hesketh on Sun Mar 9, 2014 at 9:32 amI am having a problem uploading a garmin tcx file to route gadget for Batsto. I see that it wants a GPX files. I found a free program that converts garmin tcx files to GPX: GPSBABEL at http://www.gpsbabel.org/download.html#downloading.Instructions: http://www.mapsmarker.com/docs/pro-version-docs/how-to-convert-a-non-gpx-track-file-into-a-gpx-track-file/Now I need to see how to adjust the tracks. My track on the green course claims that I ran parallel to the trail. Now you may believe that based on my times and all the artistic patterns that my trace reveals! But remember, that on such a beautiful day at Batsto, I saw lots more woods than most people. That's called more for your money!

Reply by furlong47 on Sun Mar 9, 2014 at 8:01 pmWhen you are uploading your GPS track, the second screen in the upload process should give you the ability to add, delete, and move blue dots to drag your track around. So you would want to check the box next to "add", click on your track where you want to adjust it, and then drag it over to the place where it belongs. (You might have to uncheck "add" before you can drag. I'm going from memory since I don't have a track to load right now.)

Reply by LarryG on Tue Mar 18, 2014 at 1:21 amOK, finally got a chance to use the new version. found some explanation of the new features -
New HTML5 UI. No java used any longer. (except event management). Mouse over effects. Route themes, like color by split time. Automatic GPS track positioning by split times. Touch friendly UI option, you can draw yout route with pad/phone by dragging cursor with your finger. Fix: uses geo-regerencing information in manual gps track calibration. Mouse over highlight/tooltip for every leg works now also for GPS tracks. Animation can be started now from any control, not just from start. So, that must be how to go leg by leg now, start from any control... still don't get the theme thing, just seems to change the color. -
Reply by LarryG on Wed Mar 19, 2014 at 0:08 amOK, if you go to "about", then the RouteGadget site, there is a video walkthrough of the new features. Pretty sharp. And you can draw in "touch mode" on a computer, don't need an iPad, etc. Dimming the screen and/or using mouse over effects show the routes more clearly.
