Dan, Zac and your team. Thank-you for a great event today. Enjoyed the course a lot in one of my favorite DVOA areas. The weather gods were finally kind to us at BATSTO. Again great job.

Going to Batsto today was like taking a step back in time (historic Batsto Village) and forward in time (the weather made it feel like late March rather than late February). It was a great energizer to get out in the woods after this long winter.

On the way to the park I waw a large flock of snow geese in the fields almost at the same time I heard a news report on an NPR station about the geese eating the new plants. What timing!

On the way home we tried out an authentic Mexican restaurant in Hammonton, on the main strip, next to the railroad track: El Mariachi Loco. It was terrific: food and service were superb, reasonably priced, and there was a live singer to boot.

Yes, thanks all! A perfect day.

I can't believe that Dan and Zac shoveled out the parking lot last weekend. The park should give you a medal!

This area of NJ seems great for Mexican food. On the way to Pakim Pond I will often go past another favorite--the Mexican Food Factory. But, it seems like Nancy's find is even better.

Enjoyable Brown course.  And yes, it was really nice to get feet on snowless ground for the first time in a couple weeks.  On the way home we noticed the snow line had moved about 10 miles West during the day.

Batsto 2014 was great.  We had a lot of fun helping new orienteers learn the craft.  We had lots of fun seeing our friends.  Of course the weather was beautiful which topped off the weekend.     They were all very helpful.  It was great to see a group of cadets from West Point.

I want to thank Bob Burton for being the register extrodinaire.  Bob handled all the registration plus more.  Bob Burg put out the most difficult controls on Saturday.  Erik Eddy, Petr Hartman, Bob Agosta and Rob Hesketh picked up controls.   Thanks everyone for making this event succesful and trouble free.  I talked quite a bit with the new rangers.  They were very helpful and accommodating.

If you ran at Batsto and missed getting your the "Lucky Seven" card see me at the next event with you card and I will be happy to sign off for your Batsto attendance.

PS  Good luck to Michael Forbes Sr.  I hope everything comes out well on Wednesday.

    A Philosophical Postlogue:

Late last October, Dan came to the conclusion that we would have to (once again) cancel a Batsto event, this one on Dec 8th, the last of the year.  !#%*&!@*&%!!  So he re-scheduled the event for Feb 23rd – never an inviting time of year to be standing around outdoors for 8-9 hours running an event, but the only date available before our March schedule started,.

Fast forward to 6 weeks later:  On the morning of Dec 8th, every local meteorologist forecast only a trace of snow.  By noon, snow was falling at 1 to 2 inches per hour (remember the Eagles-Detroit game?).  The forecast and the timing of the heavy snowfall would have meant that everyone coming to the event (most from distances) would have been on-site, facing an hour or two drive home through driving snow requiring 4 or 5 or 6 hours to accomplish, if at all….a certifiably miserable day.

Fast forward even further to this past weekend, which turned out to be the best weather in several months of an extraordinarily cold and relentlessly snowy winter.  For late February, it was about as ideal a weather weekend as could be imagined.

    So, a Simple Pedestrian Question:

In late October, when the event was canceled, what would have been considered an appropriate response to an exasperating situation?

Dan and Zac:  Thanks so much for knowing the future. Cool

Congrats to a Wonderful Basto Orienteering event, big crowd, and One only had to ... occassionally manuever around some Cross county Bicycle riders, whom, also seemed to come out in large numbers to enjoy Basto -(this same Day) Ring- a -ring Ding Ding must have been heard by a majority of the DVOA runners and occassional dog walkers.
Keep up the Wonderful Basto course design and event admonistration, kudos to Dan and Zak and all whom helped as volunteers.  Even the West Point Orienteering team, 10 of the 30 plus USMA members  drove/van pooled  down to this NJ park, they really liked the O courses as I spoke to a few cadets at the finish line
