I was unable to travel to the recent DVOA Annual Meeting (worked that day).  Would someone write a summary of the 2014 Club Business ... proceedings in the next few weeks and - post it/a summary ...  On the DVOA E Board please?  SO we airchairs O'ers can see what new directions or announcements may have occured?

Bob, you asked for it, you got it...

    Highlights from the winter meeting:

    • -       Attendance was a bit light, probably due to the weather: snow!
    • -       Election of officers (see Vadim’s post “New Club Leadership”)
    • -       Junior silent auction, organized by Steve Aronson (thanks, Steve!)
    • -       Lots of good food, presentation of which was organized by Sharon Siegler (thanks, Sharon!)
    • -       DVOA is presenting an A event, Mason-Dixon Classic, the weekend of April 26 & 27; Roger Hartley, event director, is looking for volunteers. Hugh MacMullan III volunteered to coordinate DVOA’s teams in the relay. We’re looking for a strong showing on DVOA’s home ground. We need DVOAers to form relay teams, both junior and adult. No relay experience needed: you just need to volunteer to run your course as part of a team. Make up your own team or contact Hugh to be paired up. A link to info about the event can be found on DVOA’s home page.
    • -       Ed Scott asked for event directors and course setters for 2014 schedule; quite a few open slots were filled, but more event leaders are needed. (See Events/Schedule page on the website.) DVOA has mentors available for anyone who has not previously performed one of these roles but would like to try.
    • -       Speaking of which: Tom Overbaugh announced a course setting clinic to be held on Saturday, March 9; find details on Tom’s posting (2014 Course Setting Clinic) on the e-board.
    • -       Person needed to oversee DVOA’s permanent courses; no experience necessary! Anyone interested in this role can contact me (use link at left).
    • -       Treasurer’s report: DVOA had major mapping projects in 2013; treasury balance at end of year is down about 40% from past years. Report for 2013 is not yet officially closed.
    • -       Endurance Sports Expo – for the second year DVOA will have a booth at this event to be held at the Oaks Convention Center (near Valley Forge). Help is needed to staff the booth. Event is Saturday, Feb, 22, from 10 to 5, and Sunday, Feb. 23, from 10 to 4. Kathy Urban is the organizer; see Kathy’s post on the e-board. Kathy needs DVOAers to step forward to help staff the booth. What do you need to do? Stand around and talk about the wonderful sport of orienteering. Even if you just have one hour to give it would be appreciated.

Anyone have anything else to add?

    Thanks Nancy!

Bob--almost like being there, except you missed out on all the scumptious food.

Other important things to note (and noted elsewhere on the Eboard) was that Mary shared news the news about Caroline and mentioned some ways which we may honor her. In that vein, John Campbell brought up our impending 50th anniversary celebration in 2017, which we should celebrate in a big way.

He suggested DVOA host a multi-day event--a five or six day like they have in Europe.

I think that is a great idea. I think we will also make our every five year trip to the Jukola/Venla relay in Finland. I am sure the team uniforms for that will be amazing ;)

And a correction on the date of the Course Setting Training to avoid any confusion -- Sat March 8th, not 9th.
