Hickory Hop Rogaine update

Topic created by Sandy on Thu Apr 25, 2013 at 9:46 amJust realized the information on the discounted fees for juniors (age 20 and under) was left off the information page. It's now been added.
Please help us out by registering for this event sooner rather than later if you plan to come. We need to order food, prizes, finisher awards, etc. and need an idea of how many people will be coming. Thanks to those who have already signed up. It should be a super fun weekend! -

Reply by edscott on Mon Apr 29, 2013 at 12:19 pmI'm going to register as soon as I decide whether to do the 3 hour and be tempted to run every once in awhile, or do the 6 knowing up front that I can't do any running.

Reply by anniemac on Mon Apr 29, 2013 at 9:38 pmYES - PLEASE REGISTER ASAP so we can start planning for things like how many awards to make! (Every finisher will get something!) Sandy has already made many trips to Hickory Run to choose control sites and I was lucky enough to go with her for some of the trips (as well as Sandy A.) It is truly one of the most beautiful places in DVOA land (and beyond!) It will be a really special weekend. The question is, will you go for it and try to get all the controls?? Even if you don't, come experience a slice of heaven on earth - good people and good fun in a stunning location.

Reply by chand on Sun May 5, 2013 at 9:33 pmStudying my map feverishly...looking for handrails and finding comparitively few :(Any prohibited areas near the start (e.g. the campgrounds?)Is most of the green on the map Mountain Laurel as in other places in Hickory Run?

Reply by Sandy on Sun May 5, 2013 at 10:13 pmThere are no controls in the campground area. Only the major trails and roads should be used in the campground areas - absolutely no going through any campsites. This will be in the course notes and announced at the pre-race briefing.
Yes, the medium green is mostly mountain laurel. The dark green is usually rhododendron (but not always). This will also be mentioned in the course notes.
