Just to add to Ed's point on registration.... this MASOC will be the 25th "Silver" anniversary of the event.  A proud DVOA tradition.  If you have never seen o helped at the event this is the time to reserve Saturday May 4th to volunteer some time and then compete on the same courses as the regular event on Sunday.   Volunteers run for free on Saturday.  You can if you wish come back Sunday and try another course.

    What happens at this event?
In the morning starting around 9am we train hundreds of first time scouts on orienteering, they then participate in regular cross-countty orienteering based on skill and age. We take a short lunch break and then they participate in a score event with a mass start that from a spectator's point of view is just great fun to watch and we rap up the day around 3pm with the always well attended awards ceremony.

This is the 2nd longest running event of its type behind the QOC Baltimore Councils Fall Scout Orienteering event.  Through the years thousands of scouts have particpated in MASOC and have been directly exposed to the sport of orienteering.  DVOA has reaped the benefits of scout leaders becoming active members of the club and have in recent years seen those scout participants bring back the troops they now lead to the event and also their families.

Through Ed Scott's leadership and the many DVOA, SVO, and QOC volunteers DVOA receives many kudos each year from scout troops and councils for the way in which this event is organized and run.

If you would like to volunteer early you can contact Ed Scott or myself by email, phone or at any of the early upcoming local events.

If you are unable to help the day of the event you can also help by speaking with any local troops or dropping off event information to local troops in your area about the upcoming event and let them know where they can get information on the event.  We can also provide you with the information you need that can be dropped off at your local troop locations. We are especially looking to increase the number of girl scouts participating this year and have a goal to register 1,000+ scouts for the event.

Help us make MASOC 25 an event to be remembered!
