    On behalf of Michelle Harris,
      Region 1 Manager
Montgomery County Department of Parks and Heritage Services

Dear Users, Volunteers and Associates of the Montgomery County Parks, Trails and Historic Sites,

Attached is a letter explaining the recent situation that has developed with the Montgomery County budget for 2012.  As is, our department is being considered for elimination.  The County Commissioners are asking for input from the community on this consideration.  It is our hope that you will express your opinion regarding the positive experiences you have had with the Montgomery County parks, trails and historic sites and your displeasure at seeing them closed.

Below are two links.  The first one is to the proposed budget which eliminates the department.  (The budget listing also has an area for comment.)  The second link is to a recent newspaper article about the situation.  Please feel free to forward this e-mail to your friends, family and members of your organization.  We need the commissioners to hear from you to ensure the future of the Montgomery County parks, trails and historic sites.  Even a quick note on the budget page comment area will help!

Thank you for your time.  We greatly appreciate your support in this matter.

(Region 1 alone consists of Lower Perkiomen Valley Park, Upper Schuylkill Valley Park, Pottsgrove Manor, Lock 60, Mill Grove, Audubon loop, The Schuylkill River Trail, The Perkiomen Trail)

P.S. FYI, we just mapped Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary area and it would be a shame if area closed for future use.

This would truly be sad.  Please forward this to anyone you know to support our parks.

Was anyone able to attend the public hearing yesterday?

The County Commissioners are set to vote on the budget Wednesday (tomorrow).  The Bicycle Coalition has an email you can send the commissioners to let them know how you feel about Montgomery County park, trail, and historic site funding here: http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/5918/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=9054
