While we had more people sign up to run than last week, the weather gods played games with us. Glen Tryson and I agreed to meet at ten to hang flags. I noticed some drizzle about 9:30. Intrepidly we soldiered on, and going home for a shower at 12:30 was delicious. After a heavy downpour, it was time to go back. The reports were for thunderstorms and tornados at 6:00. Several runners wanted to do the longer course through the new terraine first, with the idea that they could skip the first course if the rain started. 6:00 came and went, no storms to report, but plenty of humidity from the downpour. Philly and NYC both got hit pretty hard, but we were spared.
Once again my IT skills were tested and I failed. I stuck with OE12, it was already loaded and I did not want to learn a new system. This time I brought in the "A" team. Sam Kolins, Sandy Fillebrown (who did not run, she just wanted to talk to some people) and Lena Kushleyeva took over. The main problem seemed to be the printer not printing. Late in the day I needed some pick up bags (they were behind the computer on my truck's tailgate) and I managed to kick a wire. This instantly caused the printer to print splits for the last seven runners. Go Figure.
Once again I tried to have a sprint three. It only works if you have the right open terrain. Add the threat of weather, and the difficulty of the main courses, and not many used it. You can not force your ideas into every situation.
Clean up was done by many. Sandy and Eric Weyman drove to the north end and did opposite sides of the river. Glen Tryson did the plateau, while Petr Hartman did the west side and Bob Agosta and Chris Hand cleaned up the East side.
Thank you to everyone, helpers and runners, it is too much work to have no competitors, and the rescue crew was knowledgeable and patient .
