CONTROL FLAGS
-
Topic created by rgbortz on Sun Apr 28, 2024 at 9:37 amIn order to maximize the life of the control flags I am asking Course Setters to try to use the flags from 90 down. The higher numbers get less use and almost no use for 70's,80's and 90's.If this turns out to be problematic I will switch the numbers on the flags when kits come back to me for winter maintenance. ( a lot of work )Any feedback on this would be very helpful. I will need to know if the majority of Course Setters can make this happen.

Reply by Steve on Sun Apr 28, 2024 at 10:38 amIt is obvious that the higher numbers get less use, they are clean. That being said, Condes starts at 31 and climbs, which would require the course setter to renumber each site as he inputs it. I would suggest (and volunteer to help) subtracting twenty (50 becomes 30) each year, so that in three years all of the flags get used.

Reply by GlenT on Sun Apr 28, 2024 at 3:43 pmIn Condes you can set the lowest control number which will be automatically assigned as you create your control circles. From the "File" dropdown menu, choose "Settings for this event" and a page is displayed where you can change "First control code". If you set this value to e.g. 61, then the first 30 controls you create will have codes 61-90. You'll only need to manually edit if you get beyond 30 controls.

Reply by Orienteer7 on Thu May 2, 2024 at 3:20 pmAnother simple method:Condes also makes it easy to renumber. You can do the condes file as normal then use the renumbering option and start with the number (91 less the number of controls you are using). If that takes you above 90 then renumber again starting lower. Also condes skips 66 and 68 so you can also override the lower numbers with these as they too are rarely used unless you override condes. If you are trying to keep the control numbers in order for the lower courses this obviously will not work but I don't worry about keeping the controls in number order anymore as it is... I think important to know that numbers are not normally in order.Mark
