Mt Penn

Topic created by ErikEddy on Tue Nov 14, 2023 at 5:04 pmAwesome course at Coventry Woods. So glad to finally orienteer there!! It’s been a few years since Mt Penn was used. I have course set there a few times and there is no shortage of options with several starting locations and great variety. White woods stay open most of the year. Would love to see it on the calendar again! Don’t worry, I’ll return from my course setting hiatus when the time is right.

Reply by rgbortz on Tue Nov 14, 2023 at 8:37 pmUntil you are ready, Mr. Eddy, Mar.10 or 17,2014 would work for me to set Mt Penn courses if the maps are up to snuff enough. As of right now the schedule is showing open on those two dates so the event could be set up for a snow/ice/rain date to shift to the second date (Mar 17). I am also open to other dates but much prefer before the greenup.

Reply by ErikEddy on Wed Nov 15, 2023 at 7:06 amExcellent!!! There is a new winding trail that goes in the dark green area we don’t really use between the fruit farm and Antietam lot. And one in the fruit farm. I can coordinate to get that added in via gps. Twisted Sister on Trailforks https://www.trailforks.com/trails/twisted-sister-532722/ Boomsauce (Lower) on Trailforks https://www.trailforks.com/trails/boomsauce-lower/ Otherwise should be pretty good. Rocks are still there :)

Reply by rgbortz on Wed Nov 15, 2023 at 1:44 pmIf the weather of the past two Marches holds for 2024 it should be good for orienteering (fingers crossed).Put Mt Penn in for Mar 10, 2024.I would not use the Green area Erik mentioned but the Orchard is probably the best place for the white course in particular so putting the new trail there on the map should happen.
