Great Time at Norristown Farm Park

Topic created by Orienteeringmom on Sat Mar 26, 2011 at 4:34 pmA big thank you goes out to John, Sandy, Vadim and all the other volunteers for a great day at Norristown Farm Park. It was a bit chilly on the tops of the hills especially when the wind was blowing but otherwise it was a beautiful day for orienteering. I had a great time on the yellow course. A number of chances to navigate across fields and to get away from the roads or trails. Since I grew up about 15 minutes away from this park it was really fun to actually get out on the land for a change. When I was growing up it was still the State Hospital and you were not allow to trespass on the property that is for sure. The state and county have made a nice walking park there and it was really fun to be out there exploring it while orienteering today.
Thanks to all that made it happen today! -
Reply by edscott on Sat Mar 26, 2011 at 5:52 pmBrown made excellent use of the terrain available at Norristown FP. With dry ground there could have been some other options, but then there will be crops in the fields, so this is probably as good as it gets for regular advanced courses. It would make a good venue for our summer meeting & relays some time.

Reply by chand on Sat Mar 26, 2011 at 7:52 pmYes, it was excellent. I brought my mom out for her first DVOA event (she's 79) and we had a great time. Orange was perfect for my 12 year old to navigate for us. Great to have a full set of courses on a Saturday!

Reply by yoyonateo on Sat Mar 26, 2011 at 11:12 pmIt was a great time today at Noristown Farm Park. it truly was a runners course. The course setter made the best use out of the size of the map to put a 12KM blue course in. It was great! I love saturday events. For some reason it just makes the weekend seem longer.
