Gov Dick at risk?
-
Topic created by FredR on Thu Mar 24, 2011 at 12:10 pmI've been working on courses for Gov Dick the following Sunday (Apr 4), but there doesn't appear to be an ED yet. I'm hestant to take on more than what I'm already on the hook for, but except for some day-of-event responsibilities, I'm able to assist on things such as setting up epunch, hanging controls, etc. that would make this a relatively easy ED job. There is another event (mid-Atlantics) scheduled there for the fall, and Eric mentioned that there was some notion of "debut"ing the expanded map at that bigger event. So, if Spring version is dropped without too much regret, I can live with that--but it would be nice to know one way or the other pretty soon.

Reply by edscott on Thu Mar 24, 2011 at 6:39 pmThe event is not at risk. We have courses, permission, and maps. Everything else can be done by committee, but yes it would be great if someone stepped up and volunteered to organize our normal army of day of event volunteers.

Reply by FredR on Thu Mar 24, 2011 at 7:31 pmEd Niemann has volunteered to help with ED duties (I hope he doesn't mind me saying that...
), but he says he doesn't have any ED experience, so it would be nice if we could get one more person with some substantial experience to be at least a "consultant".
Of course, we'll still need the usual helpers. -
Reply by kathyu on Fri Mar 25, 2011 at 7:28 amI suddenly see the value of the automated volunteer sign up! Could someone who knows how please put it on the Gov Dick event? I think I volunteered for epunch already. Many of the usual suspects will be out of town, so some people who don't typically help have an opportunity to step up.

Reply by Vadim on Fri Mar 25, 2011 at 10:26 amAs Kathy mentioned some of us, the usual volunteers, will be out of town next weekend attending national A-meet and would not be able to help/assist with Governor Dick event. It's a perfect opportunity to someone else to show their devotion to the sport and give your time back to the club. Event Director (ED) job isn't so hard and almost doesn't require a lot of experience, just a few basic guidances from others could help you and lead the right direction. If you consider or still hesitant, volunteer or not volunteers as ED, please see me or some other club members at Norristown Farm Park or Warwick this weekend andwe'll be happy share our experience with you.
We have over 400 members registered as of today and I just cannot believe that no one can help?
Yes, we used to the fact that it always someone else does course setting and event directing. Few more are the usual suspects helping here and there running registration, e-punching, or controls pick up. However, it would be nice to see new faces. Without your help we cannot cover over 40 events a year and making every event an another good, pleasant, and exciting experience in the woods.
As soon as we have an ED, the volunteers page can be setup and ready for you.

Reply by Vadim on Fri Mar 25, 2011 at 3:16 pmThanks to Ed for stepping up, it was really quick decision and we all appreciate that.
Now we need a Course Setter and an Event Director for the Delmont event on May 1st. Any takers? If no one volunteers to take these two positions, there will be no orienteering on that day. -
Reply by KathleenG on Sat Mar 26, 2011 at 9:42 pmIt would be a shame to have to drop Delmont. I'm happy to help day of the event, but can't be ED or learn to be course setter at this time of year (school teacher work hours are manic, especially as the year winds down; and I'll be away caring for a relative for my entire Spring Break). Day of event I'll volunteer for just about anything the ED needs me to do.
