Brandywine Mid-Atlantic Wrap-Up
You may have already seen some “thank you” postings, but I wanted to personally recognize and thank the multitude of volunteers who helped yesterday in every conceivable way. I am sure I will inevitably leave someone out, but please note that everyone’s help was appreciated and contributed to the event.
First, there would have been no event without Mary and Mark Frank. Period. Mary designed not only classic courses for the morning, but relay courses for the afternoon. Among other things, Mark hung controls in some difficult spots where he figured I would just get lost and blame the course designer.
Here is a list of volunteers who helped with everything from setting up, to running registration, to the computer and tablet system (!), to handling questions at start, to guiding buses in the parking lot, to picking up controls, and stuffing everything back into Mary’s car – Kathy and Dave Urban, Valerie Meyer, Amy Loudon, John Gillette, Ralph Churchill, Roger Hartley, Erik Eddy, Dave Darrah, Carol and Bob Fink, Ron and Phyllis Wood, Nancy Sharp, Vadim and Olga, Wyatt and Angelica, Kim McCane, Drew Devitt , Andy Green, Robert Hesketh, Rick and Rich Whiffen, Eric Weyman, Petr Hartman, and Fred Krusei. As noted above, I am probably leaving out some names, but I appreciated everyone’s assistance. I have not seen so much activity by so many people outside of an a-level event. Also, I don’t know who was in charge of the weather, but I am forever in your debt!
I have not yet seen the results posted, but I presume they will be shortly along with the official relay results. QOC won the Broken Compass trophy. However, in a strange twist of fate, not all was lost for DVOA. I understand it was recently discovered that we had failed to engrave the trophy after our win last year. Before yesterday’s relay, QOC promised that if they won, they would pay not only for the new engraving, but also for last year’s as well. I am not sure that it a legally enforceable promise, but that is our position and we are sticking to it.
Thank you again for making this event a great experience.
