Topic created by kathyu on Tue Nov 4, 2014 at 4:03 pmSunday November 9 at Brandywine Creek State Park, DVOA once again will go head to head to head with Quantico and SVO. Look for early start on regular courses at 9:30am so the relay can get going! Look for cheap gas at the Wawa and good fellowship, nice woods and great (we hope) weather. Course info is on the schedule page. Finally, if you haven't helped at a meet this year, there's only a few opportunities left in 2014, so sign up!

Reply by furlong47 on Thu Nov 6, 2014 at 0:28 amIs parking/start at the JCC?
-
Reply by edscott on Thu Nov 6, 2014 at 11:19 amYes we are meeting at the JCC parking lot. On the DVOA schedule page, clicking on the underlined map name will link to a Google map with the red pin on the parking location. This is usually done by the event director, but I try to check about a week before the event to be sure it has happened.

Reply by KathleenG on Thu Nov 6, 2014 at 8:42 pmLarry tells me that a Yahoo list email about the Brandywine mentions a need for cleats on certain courses. I did not get any Yahoo email, though I'm on the list and have received emails from this list in the past. Please, someone post the info here on the member eboard. What's the info about cleats? Husbands passing on info (at least my husband) is very unreliable; very much about "whisper down the lane."

We plan to open the courses (cross your fingers) at 9:30. All are welcome. This is a regular event with the added Mid Atlantic aspect. Please feel free to come and enjoy. DVOA lost the Broken Compass Award last year just by a few points... Let's get it back. We will be on the Garden of Eden Lane off of 202. There is a Wawa at the end of the street and Shell Station. Gas was $2.83 Sunday there!!! We have to remember it gets dark earlier so we will need to 1. Get everyone started who will not be doing the relay by 1. The Relay starts promptly at 1. We will hope everyone signs up for the Relay either ahead of time or at the event. There are 3 courses for the Relay. It should prove to be fun. The Mid Atlantics is a friendly competiti on between QOC, DVOA and SVO with a little WPOC. Just remember, fun. I designed the courses hoping to give everyone some fun woods to run in. Anyone going on Green or Red should have cleats. The woods really are beautiful (mostly). Should you have any questions, feel free to email Steve Mones or myself. Mary Frank
The cleats refer to the stepness of some of the hills in the park.

Reply by wriley on Sat Nov 8, 2014 at 11:10 amActually, we won last year by a decent margin:http://www.furlong47.com/svo/results/2013/111013.htmlQOC has been known to bring in busloads of people to contend the title though, so be sure to head out there to help DVOA. Riley's have colds in various stages so may not be able to help as much with points as last year!

Reply by wriley on Sat Nov 8, 2014 at 11:14 amIs there information on Relay Start time? And is scoring the same as last year (I presume so since it hasn't been announced.)

Reply by Vadim on Sat Nov 8, 2014 at 6:07 pmScoring for Mid-Atlantics:
First 3 places on each course get 5-3-1 points. And for Relay, each category top 6 places 20-15-10-5-3-1 points. -
Reply by edscott on Sat Nov 8, 2014 at 9:19 pmTher is also a formula to determine points for each club based on the percentage of their membership that participates. I don't have it here but it must be written down somewhere.. maybe in the write up from some past year?

Reply by furlong47 on Sat Nov 8, 2014 at 9:27 pmThe formula we used last year can be seen on the link Wyatt posted, although it seems like the hosting club always makes up their own rules

Reply by wriley on Sat Nov 8, 2014 at 10:13 pmI remember a formula along the lines of 100/100/100 pts for participate/individual/relay, examples of which from past years abound with varieties of balance. Not sure if Vadim is just remembering that vaguely, or if that's the official pronouncement of DVOA scoring rules this year? If so, it's only looking like 54 points for individual, and more than 150 for 3(?) relay categories? Sure I'm missing something.

Reply by furlong47 on Sat Nov 8, 2014 at 11:44 pmThe points from last year aren't listed but when SVO last hosted before that (in 2010) we gave out 8,6,4,3,2,1 for top 6 on WYO courses and 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1 for BrRGBThat appears to be what DVOA did here as well (2008) there are scoring worksheets linked to the top

Reply by hughmac4 on Sun Nov 9, 2014 at 8:35 amA categories only for scoring?
-
Reply by furlong47 on Sun Nov 9, 2014 at 6:06 pmOnly QOC seems to make that rule, for some reason. (And last time it wasn't announced anywhere beforehand
)

Reply by wriley on Sun Nov 9, 2014 at 8:44 pmScoring ended up being 5/3/1 for 1st/2nd/3rd for M/F separately on each individual course, with QOC taking the women's courses, and DVOA taking the men's be just a bit more for a slight lead (~2-3 points - final scoring coming soon...)Then a very MP-eventful relay, with a zig-zag near the finish being too much to read for some of the fastest relay teams, including the top DVOA & QOC teams - where DVOA managed to claim the exact same MP on _both_ leg 1 & leg 2.In the end, QOC's superior organization, including a entire busload of organized competitors, and Jon Torrance's relay team planning to send out even more relay teams than the host club, proved truimphant for QOC.DVOA will need to plan a bit better for 2015. Is it QOC's turn to host? (Or will WPOC join the rotation??)

Reply by Hesketh on Mon Nov 10, 2014 at 11:40 amThe best part of the relays was that they were a lot of fun (regardless of the MP's) Thanks for helping out with the scoring!
