Wow!!!  What a day.  We survived the onslaught of the wind and had a wonderful day on the rolling fields of Fair Hill.  The success of the day was due greatly to our hardy volunteers who braved the elements to support the runners.  My first thank you is to Ralph Tolbert, our Course setter who provided more than we asked for and delivered an excellent variety of courses, including an unpublished Blue course.  The Blue course was called out by a visiting group of Swedes who passed their appreciation for the course along to Ralph.  Ralph took care of course setter duties and stepped in on a few of my Event Director Duties, making the day an absolute joy from my point (even the wind did not dampen it).  At the Canopy, I would like to thank Kathy Urban, Nancy Sharp, and Andrea Hartley on e-punch.  The system worked smoothly despite one incidence of the computer being swept form the table by the wind.  At registration, Diane Reider, Ralph Churchill, and Dave Urban took care of keeping the flow of runners moving and maintained security of flying money and paperwork.  And now for a new volunteer category, linesmen and ballast.  Thank you to Ed Scott, Dave Urban, Erik Eddy, and Ralph Churchill for asssiting me in rigging and holding down the Canopy in some of the most severe gusts I have seen.  We held an event in 2103 at Fair Hill as Hurricane Sandy came ashore and it paled in comparison to these gusts.  Finally, thanks to our pick-up crew, Len Policelli (who proved that the Mini can haul more than ever expected), Ron Wood, Andy Green, and Kim McCane.  Ralph split the map and we beat the clock by 30 minutes to park closing on a challenging first day of daylight savings time. A last thank you and that is to the Coleman Corporation..........my WalMart purchased shelter held up in some real gale force gusts.  While the lashing was not pretty, the team effort in design lashing withstood and protected the women at epunch.  In all an excellent day of orienteering with a group a people who really make adverse conditions quite alot of fun.  With each event I work, I reflect on my fortune of choosing this club over all of the options I had.  It really is all about the people.  Thanks again to all and we will see you at Horseshoe!!

Wow,  thanks for a really crazy fun day.  The course was fun, and it was actually a beautiful day,   but the wind made it wild!

Thanks to all who volunteered this last weekend to make our windy day exciting and fun! May I just say how impeccably organized everything was, right down to the super deluxe snack station!  We had some new people show up and try orienteering for the first time, and I hope that the first glimpse will have them coming back for more.  Thanks again for nice courses, and the efficiently organized event.  Plus, it was inspiring to see lots of people out on the courses giving it their all!
