Rutgers Thank You

Topic created by sfmones on Mon Sep 27, 2010 at 8:32 amThank you to everyone involved in yesterday's Rutgers event. It was a nice early fall day in white woods, marred only slightly by my inability to walk or run in a straight line. Perhaps I am being subliminally influenced by the Tea Party as I seemed to be drifting right. But, cool weather, no rain, and no hills made a nice change of pace.

Reply by bobburg on Mon Sep 27, 2010 at 8:52 pmHi everybody.
I was so sorry I couldn't be there yesterday (scheduled since last year, I was sending somewhere near 200 beginners out on courses at an Assunpink Outdoor Expo).
I'd love to hear from people about their experience on the courses at Rutgers (I was the in absencia course setter). Kept everyone in the nicest woods and did a lot of map revisions to manage that.
Please post your feedback. Route Gadget should be up and ready shortly (Doug Sevon -- from Colorado -- and I are working on it). From a lot of the times I saw (and avoiding the controversy on Green #5 which we will deal with), apparently my intention of providing fun and fast courses worked out okay. Tell us all your story. -

I definitely enjoyed the Green course -- except for that pesky #5. Bob, you definitely succeeded in keeping us in white woods, and it was very much appreciated! I guess I could also thank the deer, whose munching made the woods white.
As for Green #5, I am looking forward to hearing the story surrounding the unmapped-but-streamered knoll/depression that was ~50m from the mapped -- and "controlled" -- knoll/depression. -

RouteGadget is all setup for the Rutgers meet. Have fun putting in your courses.

Reply by BRycharski on Tue Sep 28, 2010 at 5:59 pmHello all, My apoligies as I had a small flu/cold on Monday, and have since recovered from some minor woodsy/ allergy drooling.
My Thanks to all listed below who helpsed as Volunteers at Rutgers, and made it a O-success
Mary Frank for Insurance and permits POI help
Bob (Darn this mismapped object) Burg for supremely well thought out courses on the very best Rutgers map/terrain on a east part map/gullies refield checked with burgtastic results!
Jerry Smith and Vadim Masalkov for Advanced and White/Yellow only (respectively) Control epunch Out placing with me . Also a nice Mom from Troop 132 N Brunswick who helped me set out a water stop from her car at 9:30 am. Also Ron Bortz for inspecting and transferring a complete E punch Blue kit to me at Hickory Run event two weeks ago...
general volunteers in no particular order
Kathy and Dave Urban, Bev and Fred Hartline, Carol Connelly (results tent and table set up), Vadim at middle e punch computer duty, Guy Olsen (Chief broken bottle washer), Rich Ebright (collected litter bottles for Guy), and Wyatt Riley (flag pick up with two other pick up runners who's names I did not catch at the time...
Hope you all liked the event. please stand by in about a month for a call to revisit Rutgers ECOPRESERVE for a potential service Project sponsored BY the Rutgers local FREP (friends of the Ru Park) volunteers, to trim th e main trail back from a Narrow 2 foot very enclosured trail back to a 7-8 foot or more wide and less fight based trail (See chain saws in action, cool). Sorry Bob Burg, your New 2010 DVOA map is going to need 'wider' trails/is obsolete already (at least add straightening out of trail turns that will become very straight) in the near future. See you in the RU woods.
A butter fly warps its wings in -a Piscataway bush, in the RU Preserve; and a whole ton of other effects that were unconceivable happen as a result... (Like since Rutgers U officials knew we/DVOA were hiking in the park this past sunday, they sort of ... provided alternate "accomidations" for 2 or more evicted tent city park residents (two tents at least in the south east) in the RU Eco park, and also removed all their homeless belongings? Go figure...)

Reply by CConn on Sun Oct 10, 2010 at 3:05 pmI had a great time on the yellow course -- I enjoyed the chance to learn more about choosing trails vs. straight shots. Beautiful setting, and not far from home in NJ, so the location was terrific from my perspective too.
