Green Lane Thanks

Topic created by petenealley on Sun Jul 25, 2010 at 7:13 pmThanks to all involved for putting on a great event today despite the oppressive heat! This was my first event of the Summer, and I got plenty of practice using a new route selection criteria: choosing the route that maximized the amount of shade!

Reply by Orienteeringmom on Sun Jul 25, 2010 at 8:14 pmI have a number of Thank yous to handout to a number of people who came to my rescue today and in the last few days to make this event a success. MY BIGGEST THANKS goes to Bob Fink who without his help I would never had gotten this event done. Bob field checked and streamered the Orange 1 and Advance 1 courses, he hung all of the controls on those courses yesterday in the worse heat of the summer, he helped me by drawing all of the maps for those courses as well and today he setup and worked the remote start almost to the end for me. Bob thank you so much I owe you one. Thank you goes to Vadim for coming early and setting controls for the w/y courses and helping to set things up. Dave and Kathy Urban for also coming early and helping to set up things, Kathy did the epunch system and Dave put out the road signs and a couple other things for me. Mary Frank for making a special trip to my house yesterday to deliver things I didn't have and needed and for working registrations all day for me today. Jay Wilshire and Alex Wilshire that did the early shift at the two other starts, Carol (can't remember you last name but you know who you are) who also worked the w/y start and helped Alex who was new at it. The Hartline's who finished out the remote start and brown start/orange & advance reenter for me. Bev Hartline for helping to draw maps for me. Fred Reed for working out the epunch problem and helping with running it. Steve Aronson for teaching a group of cub scouts and making sure they were successful on their first ever course. Susan Engard for helping me with the refreshments first thing and then replenishing it later for me. Also thank you to all of those of you that did quick jobs and errands for me as I asked and for everyone that helped to get everything cleaned up and put away before the storm hit. Thank you to my late helpers that stayed in the rain to download the last few runners and pick up controls, The Urban's and Ron Bortz. And finally my wonderful husband, Denny that gave up his sleep the last two saturday mornings to help me field checked and streamer and then hang controls at the Nature Center and then this morning for helping to set everything up with me with only 4 hours of sleep from working last night.
Thank you everyone! I hope you all enjoyed it even with the heat!

Reply by DaveDarrah on Sun Jul 25, 2010 at 9:25 pmJanet and all who helped make this meet possible:
Thanks not only for that, but for also making it a really fun event.
My first time on this map--I didn't even know this map existed.
I was really psyched to see 14 controls on the cue card, much
higher than typical for Brown.
Sure hoping that this is a start to what's hopefully a long string of
non-MPs!
Thanks again for a super day in the woods.
Dave.

Thank-you for last Sunday's event, It was a good challenge on several levels, the change is course scales, differences in the woods, and totally out of your control the weather. Hopefully you weren't totally drenched by the end. It was quite a ride back on I-76 in the torrential rain.
