I have offered to be the event director for Mt. Penn on June 17. Being new to all of this I could use some help to make it come off smoothly. As I see it, the biggest concern will be to secure person to setup the e-punch... and then someone to run it. I also realize that this overlaps with the Jukola event, which will limit the volunteer pool. Please let me know if you can help in any way.

Hi Len, right now this date looks good for me to give you a hand with the epunch.  If we can get a second person to also help, you'll be pretty much set.   Let's get the second person and then we can divide up the work.

and also, Dave will be laid up with his knees, so what a good time to get him involved putting the courses into the computer, it's just his kind of thing.  Of course, I haven't mentioned this to Dave yet.

Thanks Kathy, I have set up the volunteer link on the schedule  so when you know, please sign up. My wife, Patty is interested in learning the e-punch stuff and will be there for setup. she may take one of the registrations slots after learning about it. She would be a first timer but is very good with computers.

    Hi Len

Mid June is a bit past my planning horizon right now, but I'm nearly certain I'll be available to help on epunch at Mt Penn (site of some of most interesting epunch work--lightning bolts, horzontal rain and all!)

Hi Fred, do you prefer to do setup or shutdown end of the event?

Len, if you want some publicity, let me know the name of a local paper or radio show or whatever, and I will send a customized press release.  reply to k_m_urban at comcast dot net.

    Fred,
Great. I hope it works out... but lets try to leave the horzontal rain and lightning behind :)

    Kathy,
I am not from the area but will look into who we could contact. Thanks for offering.

    DOVA members,
We're still looking for a course setter. If you can help or would like to give it a try, please contact me or Ed Scott.

The Reading Eagle would be the paper local to Mt Penn: http://readingeagle.com/

Here's the weekend section where we used to get listed a long time ago.  Used to be a special section that came out the last Sunday of the month for the following month, but that might have changed.

I'm worried about sending out publicity when we still don't have a course setter.  Do we have permits?  Can an old event be re-used, not the one that's been used 2x already, of course.

Kathy, I don't know what others would feel but I think that you have a good idea.
a lot of work goes into making 5 level courses for one day of use.  Why not recycle the courses a few years down the line when we don't have a course setter.  Of course someone need to go out and make sure the courses are still good but a couple of people could do this in a day of their choosing.  Once the courses are checked and found to be useable then print, find people to hang the controls and the event is a go!  Especially on an event like this one where we have someone that want to be the meet director it would be a shame to not have the event.  Just my thoughts!

Re-using courses could be a whole topic of discussion, but this time, most of the elite runners will not be there.  Like Festivus, this is an event "for the restofus".Laughing

We have salvaged the Mt Penn event so I am in need of a helper or two to hang flags on Saturday the 16th.  I want to do them all in the afternoon to reduce the chance of vandalism.

I am reusing an old set of White and Yellow courses from awhile back, but Orange through Red are new.  Some other control sites are similar to that event but are on different courses than when they were last used. The maps I have are not dated and the courses are not on Route Gadget. I don't really know how old they are, but old enough that those that were on white and yellow at that time have probably forgotten or moved on to a more difficult course.
