The Junior World Orienteering Championships start tomorrow, July 4th, in Aalborg, Denmark.  DVOA has two juniors on the JWOC team this year, Alison Campbell and Greg Ahlswede.  Also the entire Campbell family, Karl Ahlswede and Cristina Luis are over there as well.  Cristina and John Campbell are with the team as coaches and the rest are competing in the Spectator event, The JWOC Tour.  JWOC kicks off with a model event today, July 3 and opening ceramonies tomorrow night.  The first race is the Sprint on July 5, the Long distance race is on July 6 a day of rest on Wednesday the 7th with the Middle distance Qualifying race on Thursday the 8th and the Middle distance final on Friday the 9th. The final event is the team relays and they are next Saturday the 10th.  There are a couple of spots that you can check for results and information on how the team is doing.  The official JWOC site is at www.jwoc2010.dk, Greg has a personal blog on his college website at www.shipwraiders.com you will see an article about Greg and his picture, click on that and then you will see a spot to click on his blog from there.  Also you can go to the USA team blog which is www.usa-orienteering.com and Cristina is posting there as well.  Let's make sure that our Junior team knows that they are supported and matter to all of us by watching their results so that we can talk with them about it when they get back in the USA later this summer.  GO USA!

The results page is at  JWOC Results   Sprints are up and they are probably in the woods right now for todays competition.

No idea if these are final yet, but it looks like Alison and Greg were the top Americans respectively in F20 and M20, and were both in the top 100 in a very tough field.

Way to go!

Excellent results by both Greg and Alison today!  Tomorrow is a rest day and the middle distance qualification races are on Thursday.  Go Gerg!  Go Alison!  Woohoo!!!!!
