Last weekend a half-dozen-plus orienteers ran in the 15km (or 30km) trail races called the Dirty Bird, held at French Creek State Park (options were 15, 30, or 50km). In the 15km, DVOA's Anthony Riley finished in 4th place overall and first in his age group, with HVO's Peter Zakrevski 7th (2nd M20-29). These OUSA juniors represent a strong future for OUSA. In the 30km race, Greg Ahlswede finished FIRST. That's quite the accomplishment against your everyday trail racer. What do orienteers have that trail racers don't? They're fearless on downhills and able to close the gaps there. Also running the 15km were DVOA members Istvan Nagy, Glen Tryson, Florin Tencariu, and Chris Hand. (Maybe there were more, but those are the names I recognized.) Congratulations to all for these on-trail accomplishments!
