Delaware Valley Orienteering Association

Please join us at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education on Sunday June 20th for a special relay event and the summer picnic and meeting. The relay will be a "Phone -O", designed for 2 person teams where a runner is guided through a white/yellow level orienteering course without a map, aided by the instructions of his/her teammate over a cell-phone. 

 

Event highlights:

1. Bring 2 fully charged cell phones- Verizon works well in the park and it's anticipated that most other carriers will work as well (this is an assumption, not a guarantee).

2. A team will be comprised of 2 people- both people have to be present in the park to participate as maps will not be provided before the event.

3. There will be 2 loops, each between 2-3km in length. Teams can take turns with each person getting a chance to navigate the other through a loop, or one person can run both loops with the other teammate navigating the entire time.

4. If you don't have a cell phone, or don't wish to use up minutes by having a teammate get you lost in the Schuylkill Center, you can still run one or both loops recreationally, but you won't be counted in the official results.

5. There will also be a white course provided.

6. Please bring a dish to share and stay for the picnic and meeting afterwards. We have reserved the pavilion for this purpose (please bring your own chairs), and there are also several picnic tables available.

 

Registration for Phone-O is 11:00 to 11:30 with starts at 11:30.  Registration and starts for White are 11:00 to 12:00.

All courses close and control pick-up starts at 1:30.
