World Orienteering Day is this Wedensday, May 23.  Come orienteer with us that evening at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.  What better way to kick off the summer evening sprint series than to be part of hundreds of thousands of people orienteering around the world!

There will be two short courses on a 1:5000 map.  Both are suitable for beginners.  Courses open at 6pm (earlier if we're ready) and close promptly at 7:30pm when controls will be picked up.

The summer evening sprint events are a fundraiser for the US Team so special pricing is in effect: $10 for one course, $15 for two, $2 for each additional map in a group.

And, for those of you who want to feel like a pro, we will have SI-Air touchless punching available.  Instead of having to stop and insert your SI-card into the control, you just wave your card over it.  The card beeps and flashes (instead of the control) to indicate that it has registered the "punch".  We will have SI-Air cards availalble to rent at this week's event and I am working on having them available at more of the summer evening events.  $5 to rent an SI-Air card.

The weather looks great (fingers crossed)!

We had a great turn out on a beautiful evening at the Schulylkill Center this evening.  Attendees got to try out SI-Air and those that did loved it.  And we were graced by a visit from long-time DVOA member Jim Brown!  That was a nice surprise.

I'd like to thank Greg Ahlswede for helping me hang controls and working start all evening, Kathy Urban and Janet Tryson for helping out at registration and epunch, and the whole crew that helped with pickup and cleanup: Janet & Glan Tryson; Jim Eagleton; the whole Riley clan; and Lena Kushleyeva and her friend whose name I've forgotten (sorry!).

Next Wednesday is Hibernia!  Hope to see you there.

Special guest star was Jim Brown, age 92.  He didn't orienteer, but it was enough to have him there on World Orienteering Day.
