Ridley Event

Topic created by DaveUrban on Mon Dec 6, 2010 at 8:50 amLast DVOA event in 2010 was great! Thanks to organizers & volunteers. Thanks, too, for the warning about the river crossing - I should have worn my swimmies (little inflatable arm bands) cause I tripped and face-planted on that second crossing
. Would someone please check the results - the Barker Boys are showing as running both Blue & Long Orange!!

Reply by edscott on Mon Dec 6, 2010 at 10:03 amYes a great finale for our 2010 season. This event shows us the value of the Ridley venue to the club. Quite a crowd for a December event on a mostly green map. Courses showed us lots of the best of the terrain and required navigation even where trails were the only viable option. Well Done!!!!

Reply by Vadim on Mon Dec 6, 2010 at 10:52 amAgree. It's a great season finale! And stream crossing was refreshing enough to keep you going faster to get warm again :) Thank you to all volunteers and event organizers. Also I was really surprised to see so many cars/people when I arrived.

Reply by DaveDarrah on Mon Dec 6, 2010 at 11:20 amI 'fourth' the kudos for a great finale to the 2010 O season. What an unbelievable turnout for such a cold and blustery day. Many thanks to all involved.

Reply by Sswede on Mon Dec 6, 2010 at 11:42 amThis was probably my favorite Ridley event ever, despite the toe cramp I got halfway through the second creek crossing. Kinda reminds me of orienteering in Northern Italy! Thanks to Hugh, Tim, and everyone who volunteered out in the cold.

Reply by Mac on Mon Dec 6, 2010 at 11:52 amIf we are to continue using Ridley, especially for advanced courses, we will need to update the map. Significant vegetation changes, a few new out-of-bounds areas, many new rootstocks and degraded old ones, and overgrown old trails and a few new trails not mapped are examples of what needs to be done. Course setting there now mostly becomes realizing that the nifty courses you planned at your desk won't work once you're in the field. Great turnout and nice comments certainly made course setting for the event worthwhile. But don't get me started again on how DVOA represents the best of human endeavors and all that stuff you've heard from me already.

Reply by wilburdeb on Mon Dec 6, 2010 at 7:39 pmAnother member of the DVOA swim team! Good job Dave! I think it would be better to do our Swim Os in the warmer months though.
This was another great event. We have had many great ciourses this fall. Thanks everyone.
