    Hi all, anyone know anything about the HVO event on Sunday? Is it worth the long drive?

    red is longest course and it's around 6 or 7k.

    I'm not going and I live pretty close ....hr away.

    I like longer courses to make the ride/drive worth it.

    Forage The Farm!
     
    No surprises, no gimmicks, just good old point-to-point orienteering, in a completely new area on a completely new map.
     
    [edit] Course Lengths
    White ..... 1.7 km
    Yellow .... 3.0
    Orange ... 4.0
     Brown .... 4.3
    Green ..... 5.1
    Red ........ 6.5

    Sunday May 29th
    Starts 10 am to 1 pm 
    Courses will close promptly at 2 pm
    Beginners instruction available
     
    Come and run and then get your local meat and veggies at the Farmers Market.
     
    Directions: Muscoot Farm is on Rte 100 (# 51) in Katonah, about 1 mile south of Rte 35.
    From the north or south on I-684, take Exit 6 and turn West toward Katonah. Go about 2 miles to Rte 100 and turn left, then go 1 mile to event parking.
    From the north on the Taconic Parkway take the Rte 202 / 35 (Yorktown) exit;  go east 7.5 miles, through Yorktown, staying on Rte 35, to Rt 100, and turn right; then go 1 mile to event parking..
    From the south on the Taconic Parkway take the Rte 100 / 133 (Millwood) exit;  go north 7 miles on Rte 100 to event parking.
     
    Parking (Orienteering sign) will be on the East side of Rte 100 (left if you are coming from Rte 35) opposite the Farm. Park along the edge of the farm road on the grass. If you arrive early you may find room in the main parking area on the west side but it fills up quickly with Farmers Market patrons.

    Registration (and download) will be in the Events Building (back entrance). This is behind where the Farmers market stands are.

    Despite the name, once you left the farm and the goats, cows and chickens, you were in white woods.  The trail network at the start threw some folks off.  The terrain was not too stony, with many very defined stone walls, good for navigation.  While the stone walls were perfectly clear on the ground, on the map i had trouble using them to navigate.   I wasn't completely recovered from the flu, so what with the 90 degree heat that day, I didn't finish.  Dave and Steve enjoyed the brown, though, and I passed some time at the weekend farmers market at the site.   I've resolved to never go out on a hot day again without my own water.

    Yes, the map printing was horrible. 

    Terrain in the western part of the map was quite nice, though.
