Early reminder to Come out to support Quail Hill Local O meet

Besides supporting The Norristown Sunday 10 April Event as a Volunteer, please consider to Volunteer for the 17 April Quail Hill Camp (Manalapan) local O event. I have need for many Volunteers, and would like to hear from you early as we have a good Base of JROTC cadets and local NJ Scouts registered to attend and we need starters and registrars and trainers to help them start there journey in NJ Orienteering on Bob Burgs Fine set of O courses. See the volunteer need list, and pay it forward.
We especially need O trainers, and that is for beginners so as long as you can orient a Map and gain a few Training tips Bob Burg or me, anyone from DVOA can train the beginners, its easy. We also havve again rented the camp picnic shelter, so bring a Bag lunch, and join us for some fine hiking on a newly revised map showing all the nice terrain Quail Hill camp showed George Washington right before the nearby Monmouth Battlefield was a dual British and American Army campwide - Water fight that got out of hand. We have had below average Scout registration althought they are well represented (about Scouts, more singleton Scouts, repeat visitors, are signing up), and a few might still - walk onto the courses, thats allowed, but this O meet is a local o meet as usual. All later registering scouts have been asked to attend after 11:30 am and later. All I had to do was ask!
Actually, this years Quail Hill O meet is taking a local Linden, Mast and Coltsneck Hgh School JROTC cadet flavor (over 26 teams and 41 solo Cadet runners), and they all have the edge on the local DVOA runners as they are many and r quite competitive. I am thinking that those DVOA runners whom breeze thru Bob Burgs Green courses usualy ... will find about 11 fast like lightening cadets running past them on Green map and leaving those whom are still in winter lack of roadwork practice mode wishing they ran down a course. ditto on Orange and Yellow Long courses. I have a volunteer Crack Staff so if some folks saw a long line at 9:45 am in 2015, I and the Two e punch operators are telling me we have e Punch processed about 60 pus e sticks already for 2 of the 3 schools , the technology of e punch is going to make registration lines disappear this sunday. We till need middle of the Day relief, any DVOA vols may contact me to start early if they can volunteer to render shift relief to the morning crews. That all said, we have good parking facility's, a trading post, and my Favorite, cookies and Ice tea for the volunteers. Oreos, Nilla wafers and Pecan sandies for me!
So Come All locals, DVOA, Scouts, HVO and sorry, no lines - but we have a great brand new map, althought I would have kept the ROW power lines, for future tanglefoot running once the virginia creeper vine (NJ variant) starts growing over 3 feet tall, and the option for some free golf balls (ROW is usually full of them unless the Burgman has picked up a good share). That and Quail Hill is the type of map that challenges you to find the two best routes, as Bob Burg Usually plans that route choice in. Me, I would always put in the Quail Power line freeway option (I made the 1st map with the power lines (and Theo Zaharia, remember him? Wha a crazy european mapper) as it added about 4-5 acres of runnable land to the Quail map), and I plan to sell a few older leftover QH topo 2014 maps to the red runners so they can still (less the green, all fight removed 2 year by the local company) know where the real good running short cuts exist. But alas, I am the ED, not the CS - I do hope that the termites have eaten most of the Sandy rootstocks, all 200 of them not harvested by the Scout rangers chain saw. But I digress ... See you out in the woods. ANd when I hear the hoot of the local Quail Owls, I think of O meets of the past, the Ringos (Miss them dearly), the Pink cards, the wasps attact the one nice Scout volunteer on the nosey, one year near the Laurence lodge porch, I got a thousand Quail hill camp Stories .... Mostly good! 17 years of them - wow, time flys. Charlie Messina, where are you now? And hey, NO Snow in the Forecast! (or rain)
