It is one of my favorite DVOA areas and Bob's courses really required constant focus on good compass and reading the subtle contours for the whole course. Great job all round. Thank-you

The weather was wonderful and some people even had a chance to see the Christmas carrollers in the park office and also the tour of the mansion which was decorated for the holidays. Washington next week. Hope we get equally beautiful weather to end our O year. And Batsto Village was beautiful.

Could we have imagined a better December O-day in the NJ Pinelands?!!
The weather gods smiled on us, lots of people showed up and loved their courses (unless you were all lying to us J), lots of people joined in to help out (e.g. 8 people hung around for pick-up!!), park staff members were cooperative hosts throughout the day and were delighted with how seamlessly the event went off, and we got out of the park by 4pm. What more could we have asked for?
Now let’s all turn out for Olga’s course setting debut (granted, with a little help from “a friend”) at Fort Washington next Sunday to cap off our autumn season.
Lots of kudos to hand out – Thank you’s especially to our core NJ staff.
Doug White has served as a true partner through this Fall’s 3 NJ events in only 6 weeks…and at all 5 NJ events this year (starting in March snow at 4 Mile Circle), helping out with set-up on Saturday till (and past) dark as well as early Sunday, working all day during all events, providing a wonderful squash soup today, and served as one of (and usually the last) to leave. We could not have pulled off this trifecta (quinfecta) without you, Doug.
Robert Hesketh (nursing an almost mended foot), manned the e-system all day (in relative ease in comparison to his yeoman’s job at WashCrsg) with good spirits for all.
Pat and Bob Burton (whose home serves as our NJ kit’s home), arrived early, manned Registration and Start, ran their courses, picked up controls, then loaded up our kit. They have been a real treasure to the heart of our NJ crew as well as DVOA events in general.
So let me list everyone else (hope I don’t miss anyone) who helped bring you Batsto 2015:
Sandy Fillebrown overprinted the course maps (trickier than you might presume), offered early instruction, invaluable e-consulting, and extra tables that held our staff soups, the Franks who graciously provided their splashy Finish chute, Bob Fink who after running his course relieved at Start and helped with the most remote pick-up controls at end of day, Vadim who (along with Olga) helped gather up the e-kit at end of day, and drove our most remote pick-up crew to their distant destinations, while also picking up our remotest controls, Petr Hartmann who gathered up the other third of our most remote controls, David Urban, Helga Yang, Pat and Bob Burton for additional control pick-up, as well as new DVOA member Jeremy Mollison who after sampling a Batsto Village tour finished off the last of our control pick-ups.
Our day was a grand example of how DVOA members join together to provide wonderfully delivered events – YOU make an event easy to deliver. Thanks not only to you, but also to all the attendees – members, general public, scouts and jrotc cadets that reward us with their enthusiastic participation, as well as today’s welcoming Batsto staff.
It was a great penultimate conclusion to our 2015 schedule. (Remember Fort Washington next week.)
