Number 2 (54) on Green  really played with my head when not seeing the control where it should have been.

After second guessing myself and thinking I wasn't where I thought I was my search brought me full circle back to where I decided to step up to the exact spot I thought the control should have been and there was the stake only with a ribbon on the ground with no. 54 on it. No flag lying downhill so I went over the crest and down a little lay the flag, box and pole. "Bearly" believable that this was the second weekend in a row that the full time woods residents were messing with us again. 

If you see Len Policelli listed as Course Setter on a future event rest assured there will be quality courses.

Thanks to all the gracious volunteers that helped make this an event more than worth the drive.

 

And to add to your control #2 story... My two sons were picking up the controls around Landis Lake. They approached this control from the south and had to shoo off a full size black bear to collect the control. Now that's dedication to getting the club equipment back :)

I already have some course ideas and have sketched out a few to check general distance. I want to do this again next fall but find a more optimal date... maybe the weekend after NAOC?

Ron Bortz for being first to the missing control and having the diligence to get it back in place.

Ed and Judy Scott and Diane Reider for coming early to help and staying late to pick up controls.

Dmitry Lavrov for picking up the most remote controls. Without him, I may have been back Monday.

#1 thanks go to Len Policelli, who designed great fun and challenging courses and created cool maps with color-coded borders.  He made many trips to Egypt Mills (on the far northern reaches of DVOA land) to create quality courses including a sprint.  Len's dedication, hard work and attention to detail were inspiring.  

Patty Policelli and Dave Urban were the essential support group, providing labor and encouragement.  The Policelli kids were there to help, with Max at the start with Tim Walsh.  Ed and Judy Scott helped with map bagging and Diane Reider provided help with epunch and administration.  Sandy Fillebrown worked the epunch so I could get out (greatly appreciated!).

Thanks to Ron Bortz who persevered and found and replaced a control a bear had been using for a toy!  Deer, bears (2) and evidence of beaver activity were reminders that we were in a wild place.  Ask Dave about the bear that said "Woof".

Finally, as Len mentioned, he would have been picking up controls by the light of the moon if not for control pickup help from the Policelli family, Dave Urban, Diane Reider, Ed Scott, and especially Dmitry Lavrov.

Wish more people would get in to Route Gadget.
