Resuscitating the Idea of a Sprint Summer Series

Topic created by bobburg on Thu Jul 23, 2015 at 1:32 pmA month late to June's discussion, I hope the idea has had legs since then.
I love the idea of a summer sprint series. Lots of orienteers I know suffer on longer courses in hot weather, so a couple of sprints per event might be a great way to fill up our schedule -- maybe offer them as sprint AND picnic. Then reduce our full course events to one a month so THEY show up as special events.
And I'd like to suggest (hopefully not prematurely) another venue. The mapping committee and I are currently waiting for approval from Germantown Academy to map their campus (a little more than half school grounds, the rest woods) at ISSOM standards. If this comes through (and all signs are positive), we could couple it with Fort Washington (only a short walk away along a connecting green corridor and a welcoming place for a picnic afterwards). I experienced something similar last week at a Wednesday summer evening series that Cascade Orienteering Club held in a park (in a maze of trails perfect for a Sprint) just east of Seattle.
I've got my plate full this fall with mapping and events, but I'm definitely there with moral support.
